Interview with porn star Violet Blue!

Obviously, no one reading this has ever watched porn. We're not that kind of people, right? Okay, now that we've gotten that lie out of the way, lets talk about a lady that I'm sure you may have seen...you know...if you actually watched porn, which you don't. Violet Blue entered the business in 2000 and quickly developed a legion of fans through not only her looks and talent (and WHAT a talent!) but also through her honesty and girl next door openness with her fans. But Violet is much more than just a porn star. She's also a practicing witch, and a member of the Ordo Templi Orientis, a religious organization made prominent by Aleister Crowley. In other words, this should be an eye-opening interview no matter how you look at it!
Anarchy: For those who are new to you and your career, how did a girl from Aberdeen, WA become one of the most successful X-rated actresses of the past several years?
Violet Blue: Well I'm not sure that I would consider myself a successful x rated actress, let alone one of the most successful. I suppose if your an outsider looking in and seeing how many movies I've made and the interviews for HBO and such that I've done, I look like I'm living the high life. In all actuality, at the moment I'm a jobless beauty school student, who's pregnant and living off the little I get from my website and child support from my ex husband. But, I got into the adult industry from dancing in a club in Salt Lake City. I was "discovered" by an agent named Roy Garcia who reluctlantly took me along with another girlfriend of mine named Sadie (who wouldn't go without me) out to LA. We weren't
going there to do porn, but do photo shoots for magazines. But being as pale and skinny and gothic as I was, not one photographer wanted to hire me. I just wasn't marketable as a goth to Roy I guess. It was time for me to go back to Utah and I didn't have the money to pay rent, so I asked Roy if he could get me work in a porn scene, called my husband and told him I was going to do one to make some money to get back home and pay rent. I ended up enjoying it a little too much,
and ended up moving my husband and my son out to LA so I could be an adult actress.
Anarchy: The adult industry is probably the most lucrative business in the country. When an actress wins awards like AVN's Best New Starlet like you did in 2002, how does that affect the money you are able to command and your status and control of your career in the industry?
Violet: Actually I didn't make as much money after I won the award, because my agent told everyone that my price went up, and no one wanted to shoot me for more money. That year was a very difficult one for me. Winning that award was great, one of the greatest things that has ever happened to me. But I did suffer alot financially because of it. I also made the mistake of telling everyone that I never wanted to be a contract girl. I wish I would have took the chance to get a contract, because I would have gotten more exposure and I would be making alot more money right now.
Anarchy: You hosted a show about sex, and even won an award for your skills! Whats your best sex tip or trick?
Violet: Take your time and get your girl nice and hot before sticking it in her.
Anarchy: Some have criticized the industry as being disrespectful or demeaning to women. You and others seem to have used the industry in a professional way to achieve your goals. What is your take on things?
Violet: There's a dark side to every aspect of life. Most of the time in the porn industry everything is very professional and wonderful, but like any industry, there's got to be rats. Otherwise you wouldn't know if you had a good thing, because you wouldn't have anything bad to compare it too.
Anarchy: Your website has become a major focus for you as you've decided to take on less film work. Give us the big sell on why people should join your site (as if I'm not already digging out my credit card).
Violet: If you enjoy me in the movies, you'll enjoy me more up close and personal. I've got a ton of exclusive content that you can't get anywhere else. My website is going to be the only place your going to get to see pictures of my pregnant belly! My website will also be the only place you'll see new content of me having sex with men, because I'm not working for other film or internet companys anymore, doing sex scenes with men. I'm hoping to get a camcorder soon, so I can shoot more videos of my everyday life, but naked.
Anarchy: How do you feel the industry has grown or evolved to adapt to the internet, and will web sites eventually replace DVD sales?
Violet: I think websites and internet companys have already hit the DVD company's really hard and some are struggling to catch up. I don't think personal films will ever die though. There's just something so cool about having a film thats been autographed by the stars in it!
Anarchy: You are also in college, have a family and have discussed opening a store back home. What are some of your career and personal goals for the future?
Violet: I want to finish beauty school, thats my first goal. I'd like to open up my own salon at some point. Right now I'm concentrating on beauty school and having a healthy baby! I don't like to plan alot for the future, I never have. My plans change. If you read interviews with me from 2 years ago my plans were totally different. I was planning on going to medical school and opening up an occult shop with my husband. Things change!
Anarchy: When you open your salon will you do something about this mess of hair
I have? I refuse to stop being rock n roll, but damn!
Violet: Sure, but you'll have to pay all travel expenses
Anarchy: When going out, what is your fashion style?
Violet: Jeans and a nice slutty shirt with heels or boots.
Anarchy: Despite your sexy image, I understand that you're a pretty big dork and are into video games, sci-fi, horror and that sort of thing. That clearly makes you the perfect girl! What are some of your favorites?
Violet: I'm a sucker for old school regular Nintendo. I've never bought any other game system. I love computer games. My favorite is the Sims Making Magic, but I have all the Sims 1 expansion packs. I have the Sims 2 Nightlife, but I don't play it much because I need a faster processer, a new motherboard and a faster video card. Right now I'm topped out as far as video cards I can get because my motherboard is so old. Computers get old too quick! I just had this one built in 2000. But I guess thats forever in computer years. Anyway Sims 2 tends to skip and take forever to load and do anything because of my computer. I also like Spider Solitare, Maijong and Conquest. Sometimes I play Simcity too. I'm not sure which one it is that I have, one of the older ones. I really miss the old Leisure Suit Larry games and Kings Quest 5. Ok, enough about games. Andy Warhol's Dracula ROCKS! I love old horror flicks. Not the really really old ones, but alot from the 70's and 80's. Waxworks, House 1&2, Evil Dead, The Lost Boys, and so on. I don't have cable right now so I don't watch any TV anymore. I used to watch the TLC channel and the history and discovery channels all the time. Oh, and comedy centeral. I love the Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy and Buffy, but doesn't everyone?
Anarchy: What kind of music are you into and what are your favorite bands?
Violet: I like a large variety of music. I'm really not much of a music hound, I enjoy it, but I don't really care all that much to find out who's singing the songs unless they come on the radio and blow me away, like Nirvana and Tool did. My favorite bands are Nirvana, Tool, NIN, Violent Femmes, Janes Addiction, Ministry, Fugazi, Butthole Surfers, Beck, Murmurs, Sky Cries Mary, Mazzy Star, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams SR. Roger Miller, Perfect Circle, Britney Spears, Tom Petty, Marc Almond and Lorenna Mckennet. I'm varied.
Anarchy: You have studied various religions over the years and are into witchcraft. When did you get into magick and what about it appealed to you?
Violet: I started reading about witchcraft around age 15 I think. It might have been sooner, but not later. I was always into the occult, aliens and Ouija boards and Unsolved Mysteries. I started out by going to the local library and picking up a book called the Malleus Maleficarum (The Witches Hammer) which is a book about how to persecute witches. Then I read a bunch of other ones, some Scott Cunningham, and The Witches Bible. And of course Anton LaVeys books. He's a fruit loop. I was a book read witch till I was about 18, and then I found some friends who were also as odd as me and we started alittle coven. We called a storm together! YAY! That sounds dumb but it was pretty cool to witness. Then I went to Evergreen State College and my roommate Annie was a solitary witch too. I'm not sure that she was as into it was me though. When I moved to Utah is when I started getting some real training as a witch. I joined an amazing coven there. I met a girl in a coffee shop called Anchors Aweigh who introduced me to Aleister Crowley's writtings. I also joined the OTO Ordo Templi Orientis www.oto-usa.org and met my friend Dust, who introduced me to Enocian work.
Anarchy: To clarify for those who may just be discovering witchcraft, this is not about riding around on a broomstick. Tell us what true magick is all about.
Violet: Its all about the Great Work, knowledge and conversation with your Holy Guardian Angel, or at least thats what it is for me. Wicca is a little different. Depending on what type your in, it could be about goddess worship, or duality worship. I don't worship anyone, I commune with my gods and goddesses as equals. I am a goddess. "Every man and every woman is a star"
Anarchy: What about black magic, which is what many people automatically think about when Wicca is discussed?
Violet: LOL Dorks. Black magic is any magic that is not in accordance with your true will or that messes with the will of others. Its something that just doesn't happen with true ceremonial magicians. Once your in harmony spiritually, you don't need to change the will of others, life changes it for you.
Anarchy: You are also a member of the Ordo Templi Orientis, which is not a religion, but can be confused as such by an outsider. Since these things (including Christianity) always tend to sound like cults to people who
are just discovering them, try to give us an introduction to what it's about in layman's terms.
Violet: Don't be fooled, we are a cult, by definition, but so is the catholic church. The OTO is a group of like minded people. Its kind of like masondry or the Elks lodge, except we just happen to be Aleister Crowley junkies. I guess thats the best way I could discribe it in laymans terms. Go read some Crowley.
Anarchy: One of the most important aspects is the phrase "Do as thou wilt". This is not a statement to do whatever you feel like doing, but is actually the opposite, right? I take it as more of a search for your true self as opposed to an ego-driven mantra of doing whatever whim you happen to have at any given time.
Violet: You got it! I couldn't have explained it better myself.
Anarchy: And what is the meaning behind the phrase "Love is the law, love under will".
Violet: I thought that was self explanatory? Your true will is the will of god.
Anarchy: What is the OTO's, or your personal stance on Jesus, Satan, and things like Scientology?
Violet: I can't speak for the OTO but my personal view is that Jesus was an amazing man who was able to change the lives of many people for the better. I don't think most of the Christian churches of today understand the true teachings of Jesus Christ, and I wish that they would educate themselves and dig alittle deeper than the spoon feeding of the bible. Jesus accepted everyone and saw the light of god in everyone. He said I am the Son of god, because he is, and so are all of us, sons and daughters of god, the creator of the human race. (if there is such a thing as one creator, I kind of like to think there could be). Satan, well boy did he mess up or what? If he exists then he's not a very smart one is he? Now Lucifer on the other hand, well I'm just tired of people grouping everyone into the "devil" catagory. Scientology is a wonderful scam. Very interesting views and a whole lot of money to advance. Hubbard was a genius nutcase. Which I can understand because if I remember correctly he was hanging with some OTO folks back in the day before the beginning of his church :)
Anarchy: I read in an interview where you stated that God left us behind or died, which is why he never shows himself anymore. I laughed at that but thought about it later and it makes sense. Hell, the more I read into your beliefs the more sense it all makes (which is the opposite of most religions). Do you still feel that way about God?
Violet: I feel that way about the god of the old testament, if he ever existed. Its possible that he just got bored with us and thats why he handed us off to Jesus. Something certainly has happened since the days of fire and brimstone. Seeing angels and talking to god used to be pretty common back in the old days, or at least it seems that way if you read through the bible. Now society would think you were nuts if you saw a burning bush and heard the voice of god. They'd have you commited. Its funny how the people back then thought lunitics were holy men. Also I don't understand why there isn't as much interaction with god and humans like there used to be. And where the heck is Jesus at? He just dies, his body dissapears and then nothing? I still haven't found Jesus. He must be in the couch after all.
Anarchy: OTO incorporates elements of Judaic mysticism and Catholicism into its beliefs. Would you consider it to be a valuable tool that can strengthen the faith of people in a variety of religions?
Violet: Its worth it just for the people you meet. YES!
Anarchy: What do you think of the fact that people are killing in the name of their God? What do you think of the war in Iraq?
Violet: People have been killing in the name of there god forever, its nothing new, and its never going to change. I don't really understand the war in Iraq. I don't understand why we are over there still. I thought we were trying to get the terrorists groups that blew up the World Trade Centers? It seems as if the war has taken a different direction because I'm pretty sure the terrorists have fled Iraq already. I know I would have. Wasn't Bush's daddy doing something over in Iraq during his presidency? Its possible that this Bush is trying to settle an old score for daddy. But I really don't have a clue.
Anarchy: Do you ever get slighted by people for your beliefs or career choice and how do you deal with that?
Violet: Sure, I tell them to fuck off and mind there own business. Spam blockers block most of my religious, I can save you letters though.
Anarchy: You personify the idea of broadening the scope of sexuality, relationships and spirituality. Do you feel that America is ready to evolve into a more open-minded way of life, and isn't it long past time for the stigma that goes along with being an actress in the adult industry to disappear?
Violet: Wouldn't that be dandy? Its not going to happen anytime soon though. Not till people are exposed to more life living experinces. I forgot how closed minded most people are, till I came back to Grays Harbor. Its a culture shock comming from the debautry of LA. There's a whole different type of debautry going on up here. Its called HOLIER THAN THOU! Poo stinks no matter which ass it comes out of.
Anarchy: Anything else you'd like to say to the people reading this? The floor is yours...
Violet: I'd just like to say that I'm NOT the AUTHOR named Violet Blue, I'm the adult actress named Violet Blue. You can read about the author Violet Blue on Tinynibbles.com. My website is VioletBlue.org.

COOL! I want to give MAJOR thanks to Violet for not only being the first adult movie star to do an interview with us, but also for teaching us about her beliefs! She is an awesome girl, and everyone WHO IS 18 OR OLDER should check her out at VioletBlue.org.
