The Dear & Departed To Release "Something Quite Peculiar" on May 22;
Band Confirmed To Play Hurley Stage On Warped This Summer

Orange County transplants The Dear & Departed will release their Science
Records debut Something Quite Peculiar on May 22.

After relocating from Australia and New Zealand to life behind the Orange
Curtain, singer Dan Under, guitarist Simon O'Gorman and drummer Joel Bourne
slept on couches and in vans while seeing "sure thing" record deals fall
apart before teaming up with guitarist Darren Parkinson and bassist David
Williams to form The Dear & Departed.

Mixing a dark aesthetic and an esoteric approach with punk and new wave
influences, the band has more in common with The Cure, The Church and
Sisters Of Mercy than other bands hailing from the 714 area code.

Having toured with heavyweights like AFI and Avenged Sevenfold the band
teamed up with Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna, whose production resume
includes U2, Smashing Pumpkins and Killing Joke, to produce their debut
album. AFI's Jade Puget also came onboard to help with additional
production.

AFI fans may be familiar with Dan Under's hypnotic vocals as he sang on
several tracks of the band's latest, Decemberundground. With an
international fan base in their corner,The Dear & Departed are set to rock
the Hurley Stage on the Vans Warped Tour this summer.

Taste Of Chaos interview with WiL Francis of Aiden
Back by popular demand! We ask the questions you wanted us to ask!
wil6b.jpg
All photos by Courtney Sultan, taken in Duluth, GA

Of all the interviews we've ever done, none has recieved as big of a reaction as our first interview with Aiden singer WiL Francis. Lots of people have been emailing me over the past few months wanting me to interview him again, some even supplying me with questions, so when I went to the Taste Of Chaos show in Duluth, GA I took that opportunity to have another go at it. WiL has been a great friend to me and this web site, and despite having very little time before the show, he made sure that we had time to talk. He's a great guy, and his band deserves your support. This interview will not only give you a preview of what's to come musically for Aiden, but also an honest, in depth look into his life before the success of the band. We're proud to have him on the site again so read on...

Anarchy Music: What’s up dude?

WiL Francis: Yo

Anarchy: It’s been a few months

WiL: Yeah, it’s been a while. How are you?

Anarchy: Good, how are you?

WiL: Good.

Anarchy: How awesome is the Taste Of Chaos tour?

WiL:Yeah, it's the best. Fuckin awesome bands. Same production as The Warped Tour so it's real organized. There’s no fuckin surprises every day. There’s backstage rooms with showers

Anarchy: Yeah, it seems like it’s very well put together.

WiL: Yeah, it’s fuckin awesome. It runs like a smooth ship..

Anarchy: How you getting along with the other bands?

WiL: Oh, totally! We’ve been good friends with all of the bands for a long time. It’s been a good time. Fo' sho'!

Anarchy: You connect with audiences in such an awesome way. For a big show like this where there’s tens of thousands of people, how do you connect with the guy WAY back there?

WiL: I talk to him. You’ll see. It’ll make more sense. I yell at them for sitting down.

wil1.jpg

Anarchy: The last time I saw you, you said that you were going to take a little break and work on some new songs. How did that go?

WiL: It went good. We finished the Silverstein tour then we did the Australia dates and came back and had 5 weeks. Fuck man it was so inspirational. I didn’t come across writer’s block as easily as I have in the past. A lot of the new songs just came out, it was just the easiest thing. It was the weirdest experience, but yet the most inspirational one. It was cool. I’m excited for it.

Anarchy: What topics are we tackling this time? More about your life?

Wil: Nah, I’ve written a lot about things that I’ve done and places I’ve gone. To a certain extent all of the songs that I write are just an extension of things that I’ve gone through. But on this new record I’ve started to think outside of myself, you know. I don’t want to keep writing record after record about myself. Some of the songs on this record are about…there’s a couple of love songs. I’ve never written love songs before.

Anarchy: You said before that it was difficult to do that, but it’s gotten easier for you?

Wil: Well, I’ve never been able to write love songs before because I’ve never been inspired by love as much as I have this past year with meeting some of the people I have, touring with some of the bands I’ve toured with, going to some of the places. I’ve really fallen in love with the idea of waking up in a new place, going places I’ve never been before. So there’s that on this record and…we have a big queer fan base. A lot of kids that listen to our band is homosexual. I talk to these kids at shows and it seems like being a minority inside of a minority is the toughest out of all the genres. If you’re queer and you listen to Metallica, it would be kind of hard to go to one of their shows because it’s not really a friendly environment for that kind of lifestyle. I’ve written about that, just a bunch of shit. Some of it’s not done yet.

Anarchy: Is the direction still focused more on the melodic stuff that you had been going in?

Wil: Yeah, it’s a lot different. I’ve been a songwriter for ten years now. I’ve been playing in a band since I was thirteen. I’ve always thought that I can’t write this because it’s not ‘punk enough”. So just in the past six months I’ve realized that it’s not the sound on the record or the way your voice comes across on cd, it’s not a melody it’s a way of living. It’s an attitude. I’ve been able to break down all the barriers and the walls of the writing process for me. I’ve been able to write chord progressions and melodies over those chord progressions that I’ve never been able to do before. It’s a lot more interesting. I haven’t listened to any current music. I haven’t listened to any music that’s come out after 1990 in a year. I haven’t listened to any current music in a long time, simply because I think a lot of the bands that are coming out are just a regurgitation of what’s happening now. Like, there’s a band that’s a big fan of a band that just put a record out this year.

Anarchy: They get signed in two weeks and put a record out that sounds just like it.

Wil: Yeah, I just really want to go back and listen to what my influences listened to and what their influences listened to. I really think that that’s the only way you’re going to keep churning out the same thing. We get a lot of comparisons to AFI and My Chemical Romance simply based on the fact that we wear make-up.

Anarchy: And you don’t sound like either band at all.

Wil: I know, it doesn’t make any sense. So, really on this new record, what my goal is for people to listen to it and they’re not going to go “oh they sound like My Chemical Romance or AFI” It’s not gonna happen.

Anarchy: This is the record that says “We are Aiden”

Wil: Exactly, it’s not like we’re doing some completely different shit and you’re gonna think “what the fuck are they doing”. It’s gonna sound like Aiden, but it’s gonna sound a lot different.

wil2.jpg

Anarchy: I got a lot of emails after that first interview wanting me to ask questions for them the next time I saw you, so lets tear through some…People see the Star of David tattoo and want to know about your religion, if you feel comfortable talking about it.

Wil: Yeah, well I grew up in a pretty religious home. My mom was Jewish, so that makes me Jewish. My step dad was a pretty fuckin hardcore Baptist Christian. We went to church Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, Sunday nights, Wednesdays, and read the bible every night. By the time I was old enough to say “hey, this is fucking stupid” I kind of shunned that away and kind of denounced God and religion and all that bullshit that comes along with saying “this is right and this is wrong and you’re going to to go to Heaven or Hell based on this”. the older I get and the more I travel and the more religions I learn about and people I meet I realize that you’ve got a guy in Jerusalem that believes that this is the fuckin way. Jews don’t even believe that Jesus has come to earth yet. They believe that the guy who said he was Jesus was insane and it was all bullshit. Christians believe that Jesus came and he died for our sins and you accept him in your heart and you go to heaven. A hundred other different faiths believe a hundred different things. I think it’s all a bunch of fuckin bullshit, really. On the other hand, who am I to say? I’m not one to say that this religion that’s given direction to so many millions and millions of people for centuries is wrong. I have a tattoo of the Star of David to remind me of my past and where I’ve been and what I want to become. But no, I don’t follow any secular religious beliefs and I don’t pray to any particular god and I actually don’t even believe in the idea of a god who’s omnipresent and the Alpha and Omega and all that other fuckin hoo-ha. I believe that there may be some kind of power greater than myself. It’s kind of selfish to think that when we die we just get buried in the earth and that’s it. That sucks.

Anarchy: Do you ever deal with teens who are fans of yours who have drug issues, and if so do you council them or how do you handle that?

Wil: You know, I’m not a counselor. I’m not someone who can give advice. The only thing I’ve been shown is that I can tell people my story and maybe they’ll be able to get something from that and learn from it. I’m no expert, believe me. I’m just trying to get by. Kids come up to me and say they’re on drugs or have gotten off drugs. It’s different for every single person on earth. What’s worked for me won’t necessarily work for someone else. I have to really step back and not play any kind of advocate and let people learn from their experiences. For me it took going to hell. It took me going through a living hell to get sober. For some people it just takes getting in trouble and their eyes and they think “I better cool off”. For me it took losing everything. And literally living in hell to get where I’m at.

Anarchy: Speaking of where you’re at, the last time we talked you said some of your friends in the past had not been true friends when you really needed them. Now that you’re on magazine covers and on tv, do those people call you up and want to act like best friends all of a sudden?

Wil: Yeah, it’s just like, fucking get over yourself. I’ve been shown who my real friends are, and I know what the real deal is. At this point I don’t have time for people who stab you in the back and want to pull the knife out and want to rekindle that friendship. It’s like fuck off! Get a life bud. It’s kind of a weird thing. I’m not the type of person who’s an outright asshole to people. I’ll always give someone the time of day. I don’t know it’s kind of weird.

Anarchy: When you were down and out and homeless. Why didn’t you go to a relatives house? Was there an issue there?

Wil: Yeah, my family is kind of weird. We’re kind of scattered all over the country. When I was doing drugs and that whole thing there wasn’t really any family to go to. The only people that lived in Seattle were my mom and step dad and my aunt on my step dads side who I don’t really have too much of a relationship with. The rest of my family is scattered around the country. I wasn’t interested in trying to get help. I wasn’t interested in “shit, my mom kicked me out, so can I go live with you”. I was like “fuck, my mom kicked me out, so I’m going to shoot smack and go over to this crack house”. I just wanted to do what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. I didn’t want to follow any rules. Thinking back to that, I see these kids who are coming to our shows that are like 16 and 17 years old and it’s fucking insane to think what was going on at that particular time in my life, when I was that age. Then looking at these kids it’s like, fuck. How could a kid that young do that kind of shit? It’s fucking insane to me.

Anarchy: You separate yourself from the situation in that way?

Wil: Yeah, it’s bizarre. Fourteen years old and I was shooting smack. FOURTEEN YEARS OLD. These kids are coming to the shows and at fourteen years old, they’re like little children. It’s crazy!

Anarchy: Do you ever feel any temptation, being on the road and what have you?

Wil: The obsession to get loaded for me has been taken away. I know what happens when I start drinking beer, and ten days later I’m in a stolen car with three toothless crack heads with the cops chasing us or we’ve got a bunch of dope on us. I know where that road goes. I always end up in jail with nothing, and no one. I’ve already done that. A million times. I don’t know where the road goes where I see the world, have fun, make friends and live.

Anarchy: Look at what happened, dude! This road is taking you all over the world, every dream you’ve ever had is coming true. It’s incredible.

Wil: Yeah, I’m not willing to sacrifice what else can happen for what I know is a dead end. I’m just not willing to. It’s a losers deal. For me, my drug is standing on stage at the allotted time, fucking rocking. That’s my fucking drug. That’s what I get high off of, and I’m a fucking junkie. When we come off stage I’m like “fuck, I have to wait another whole day for this shit”. I’m just not willing to trade what I have now for what I know I’ll get.

wil3.jpg

Anarchy: Someone in line asked me how many tattoos you have…

Wil: Fuck if I know, a lot! A fuckin lot. Twenty-five maybe?

Anarchy: Oh boy, here’s a can of worms…your views on politics and the war…

Wil: Next question…

Anarchy: There you go.

Wil: No, I don’t want to get into any of that because I’m against government and against war and I’m against things that the powers that be put out there as what’s “best” for the country. I’m just against all that shit. But on the other hand, we’re at war, and I support our troops and I support the people who would give their lives for this country, even if it’s for a fuckin silly reason. I support those people because that’s fuckin love, that’s conviction. You’ve got to be a certain kind of person to want to die…

Anarchy: For me!

Wil: Yeah exactly, because you don't even fucking know me. People come to the shows and they’re like “my brother’s getting shipped out to shipped out to Iraq” or “I’m getting shipped out to Iraq” or “I’ve got a brother over there who loves your band, can you sign this?”. It’s really heartwarming to know that there’s still people who believe in this country so much that they’d die for it.

Anarchy: I didn’t even know this happened, but how did your parents divorce affect you?

Wil: Well, my parents never got divorced. They never got married to begin with. When my dad left my mom I was like a year old, so I didn’t even really remember him. My first memories of my life were just my mom, my brother and myself. I guess it probably hurt me later on when I told my stepfather “fuck you, you’re not my dad”. I probably have some deep seeded emotional issues with that whole deal, but who’s parents don’t get divorced?

Anarchy: Yeah, my dad’s been married 5 times.

Wil: Yeah, it’s like…

Anarchy: What a whore!

Wil: (laughs) I don’t know man, marriage pppppttt! That’s all I have to say about that.

Anarchy: I don’t think I know how to type that.

Wil: Just look at Calvin And Hobbes.

wil4.jpg

Anarchy: Even at big shows like Taste Of Chaos you’re still able to meet fans and stuff, right?

Wil: We do signings every day. We hang out at our merch table.

Anarchy: I know how much you guys like hanging with fans so I’m glad you still get to do that.

Wil: It’s the same as if we played the House Of Blues or a smaller venue.

Anarchy: When’s that new album coming out?

Wil: August

Anarchy: Oh, I’m stoked to hear it!

Wil: I’ve never been more excited about music in my whole life than I am at this point. I’m so fucking excited.

Anarchy: I told you before that the day Aiden breaks free of the “oh, they’re metal-core” stigma then it’s going to blow the roof off the joint.

Wil: Oh, it’s going to be a good day indeed.

Audrey is our March Fan Of The Month

In honor of the supremely badass Taste Of Chaos tour, we decided to do a little something different this month and give away a free cd from Evaline, who is the opening act on TOC! We have an in depth report on the tour coming up soon, along with new interviews with Bradley bell of Chiodos and WiL Francis of Aiden, but lets start things off with Audrey, our March Fan Of The Month!

Name: Audrey

Age: 14

City/State: Peoria, Illinois

Single?: yes.

If so, what’s going to turn your head? A music lover with great eyes! lol. I dunno.

Go ahead; tell us about yourself...hobbies, interests, that sort of thing: Music, concerts, & photography!

Do you have a Myspace or blog you want to plug? www.myspace.com/avrilrox09

What other web sites do you go to other than this one?: www.dirtbagmusic.com, www.blackandbluerecords.com, Google, of course! lol, and yahoo so I can check my mail n' stuff.

Have you ever won anything from Anarchy Music?: Sadly, no.

You know you're getting a free Evaline cd for filling out this survey, right? Yes!

Are you going to Taste Of Chaos this year? What do you think of the line-up? (The Used, 30 Seconds To Mars, Senses Fail, Saosin, Aiden, Chiodos, Evaline)
I already went, and it was amazing! The Used is great live.

It's March, and since I don't watch college sports I wasn't caught up in March Madness. So, what made you mad in March? Pshh, you & I are alike then, I dont watch sports either.

What are some of your favorite bands? Thats alot of bands. Flyleaf, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paramore, The Vettes, Evanescence, Bloody & the Transfusions, Left 4 Dead, Breaking Benjamin..and plenty more.. lol.

How about some bands you can’t stand? There isnt many bands that I really dont like. I'm not a big fan of Pearl Jam. I do like a couple songs though.

Is the public humiliation of Britney Spears funny or sad?
Its sad! She doesnt deserve all of that! Would you like it? :(

What’s your best concert experience so far? Hmm..probably the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Staind, Disturbed, Kiss, or Flyleaf. Its a hard decision.

Any cool shows or cds coming out that you're excited about?: I cant wait to get the new Iggy Pop & the Stooges cd, its gonna rock! I'm going to see Flyleaf next month, and I'm going to Warped Tour too, and I've heard some cool things about it!

What’s the music scene like in your hometown/school/whatever? Give us the scoop on where to hang and what there is to do: My hometown, is pretty awesome when it comes to local music and stuff. More people should get involved in it though, and they would love it. It's a great time. We have shows every weekend, and they are always pretty sweet. The all ages shows are always the most fun though.

Name one band that everyone needs to check out and why: Ok. You said name one, but I cant do that. I've gotta name two. One, is Bloody and the Transfusions, because Bloody Mess is the frontman, of course. He's been doing punk rock/rock n' roll music around here for 20 years, and he still ROCKS. Underground LEGEND.
And two, is Left 4 Dead. Left 4 Dead is one of the most popular bands IN my hometown, they are also known in many other cities. They are amazing. Some of the nicest guys you will ever meet. They are one of my all-time favorite metal bands.

Thousands of people you've never met will read this, you might as well speak your mind about whatever the hell you want, silly or serious...go for it...or not: Shit..my mind is blank. I have no idea what to say

UNEARTH PARTY WITH AQUA TEEN HUNGER FORCE BEFORE EUROPEAN + US TOUR!

UNEARTH were the main attraction at last week's Adult Swim's Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Colon Movie Film For Theatres launch party in Austin TX.

UNEARTH have recorded the song "THE CHOSEN" for the forthcoming Aqua Teen Hunger
Force feature film, Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters ( in
theaters on 4/13/2007) and the accompanying soundtrack Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon
Movie Film for Theaters Colon The Soundtrack (in stores on 4/10/2007).

Straight after their stint in Austin, TX, the band headed to Europe to join forces
with DAATH, DESPISED ICON, and Metal Blade Record's newest member to the family, JOB
FOR A COWBOY on a tour that will lead into late April.

"We are all eager as fuck to headline the UK and Europe for the first time. We have
done some amazing European tours before, but it will feel damn good to play a full
set and put on our show for our friends overseas" says vocalist, Trevor Phipps "We
are hitting up some smaller venues, most without barricades, so we can bring a real
Unearth show to the people. We hand picked Job For a Cowboy, Despised Icon and Daath
to make sure the entire bill was one that will keep the crowds looking over their
shoulders at all times!"

UNEARTH will then make their way back to the US for the highly anticipated tour with
DIMMU BORGIR, DEVILDRIVER and KATAKLYSM.

"After the headlining run we come right back home for a North American tour with
Dimmu Borgir, Devildriver and Kataklysm. We haven't hit the road with Dimmu since
the 2004 Ozzfest, so it will be good to get out there and do it again in a club
setting. Devil Driver is always a great band to share the stage with and Kataklysm
is one of the best death metal bands around today" enthuses Phipps "This tour is
going to be an un-fucking-real diverse clash of heavy music... good times ahead!"

It's our second interview with Neil Fallon of Clutch!
From Beale Street To Oblivion is out NOW, read all about it here!
clutch3.jpg

Clutch has a new album From Beale Street To Oblivion, which hits stores TODAY. It is yet another slice of rock n roll heaven from literally one of the greatest bands on earth. I know we have a bunch of readers who are already itno Clutch, but if you haven't gotten into them yet...seriously...what is wrong with you? NO ONE rocks like Clutch, so it's a no-brainer that our first ever two time interview subject would be Clutch vocalist Neil Fallon. I called him up to get the scoop on the album, and he answered many of the questions that readers sent in after reading our last interview as well. So, read the interview, and then get your ass up out of your chair and go buy From Beale Street To Oblivion, because dammit...you deserve a little more awesome in your life!

Anarchy Music: It’s good to talk to you again, and congratulations on once again putting out a smoking’ album!

Neil Fallaon: Thank you

Anarchy: Tell me about How From Beale Street To Oblivion came about. What was the impetus behind this batch of songs/

Neil: Well, it was pretty much the same process as we’ve always done with the writing, but one thing we did different this time which in retrospect I wish we’d been doing all along, which was we wrote the material and went out on the road with it and rehearsed it for 2-3 weeks on stage, so by the time we were ready to go into the studio we knew all the songs front to back and we even knew what was going on the record in what order. Because of that we were able to record something that I think sounds more confident and we weren’t writing in the studio. That can be a big time and money waster. Hopefully we’ll do it like that in the future.

Anarchy: This seems like much less of a Stoner Rock album and a whole lot of Blues and straight up Rock stuff. Was that just naturally coming out of you or are you listening to a lot of Blues these days?

Neil: We’ve always listened to the Blues but I think the older we get the more we listen to it, maybe the more we play it, and the more cognizant we are of the fact that Classic Rock bands, the ones that we really listen to in our free time like Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath, they were basically taking Blues riffs and amplifying them. I think the more we move on, the closer we go to that. Not really intentionally, it’s more of a natural progression. We didn’t go in saying we want to write a Blues record, but it just kind of happened that way with a couple of licks here and there that kind of tickled our fancy and we ran with it.

Anarchy: Your albums sometimes have a theme to them, not really a concept per se’, but is there a connecting theme that runs through this one?

Neil: Not so much, maybe sometimes there is. It’s never too intentional but I find that when songs are written in close succession sometimes they have similar themes. There might be a couple of themes, but right off the top of my head I’d say traveling and the classic “tears in my beer”. Maybe not that melodramatic, but a little bit of that expressive frustration. I’ve never really thought about it. I just wrote the lyrics and that was it.

Anarchy: They always kind of seem to tell a story, even if it doesn’t. It also seems like the past few albums have had an aspect of spirituality to them. Is that reflective of your own life or are you just using that as a lyrical device?

Neil: I never go in with the intent of doing that, and I never, ever want to sound like I’m preaching for something but having said that I think that when I sit down to write a song , if it just deals in with strictly material thing it strikes me as being potentially boring. Whether it be a reference to mythology or something vaguely spiritual, I think that brings it into a world that, at least for myself, is more interesting. I definitely don't have an answer or a stand on anything. I think it's more of a curiousity into the subject that kind of leaks into the lyrics.

Anarchy: Is there a single planned?

Neil: I believe that the first single will be a little bit of a shorter version of "Electric Worry". I alwayshave to wash my hands of that. I can't tell what a single is and isn't because I'm too close to the music. On the last record "Burning Beard" was a single and I never would have guessed that. I leave it up to the experts.

Anarchy: In thiscase the experts would be DRT. This is your third record for them and even though they are thought of as a small label, they're doing some miraculous stuff. They even got Gwar on the radio! What's it like working with them?

Neil: I think they're a label that understands what an artist is and, more importantly, is not. When we were with major labels there was a lot of ego stroking how next summer was going to be the Summer Of Clutch and basically a bunch of smoke and mirrors. I understaood it for what it was. The people at DRT don't mistake us for the nextpotentail cash cow. There's a glimmer of hope there, but they know what kind of band we are. I think when you have more honest expectations you can have more honest returns. We would just get lost at a major label, I think, especially with the climate at major labels as it is.

Anarchy: Let's say that 2007 WAS The Summer Of Clutch and you could do a Clutchfest type show, who would you want on that bill?

Neil: I would like to take out a lot of bands we've taken out before, but just on the same bill. Bands like Wooly Mammoth, William Elliot Whitmore, Stinking Lizaveta, Five Horse Johnson...I could go on and on, there's so many great bands. The Rellrays is another one. We're fortunate in that we can pick some bands that we really dig to go out on the road with and it makes touring a lot easier.

Anarchy: When I saw you with The Bellrays and Year Long Disaster, we were all kind of thinking "when was the last time you saw a tour this awesome?". You guys definitely aren't afraid to put some badass bands out in front of you.

Neil: I don't think it's lost on people. No one wants to spend X amount of dollars on one-third of the bill, even though they might be there to see one band, it's the whole deal. It's supposed to be a night out on the town. I think we play better when the bands on stage have got chops and play great. A band that sucks, technically or creatively it's just a super bum-out. No one wants to see that.

Anarchy: "One Eyed Dollar" was on Jam Room, what was the reason to bring that back for the new album?

Neil: The reason for thatwais that when we were rehearsing those songs live, one day one of us suggested that we go from "Electric Worry" straight into "One Eyed Dollar" as kind of a really lengthy piece. We kept doing it night after night because it sounded cool. When it came to writing the record, we tried writing a song like "One Eyed Dollar" that would fit the bill, but nothing beat it. So, we said "screw it, let's just do it the way we were doing it live and it kind of works". We changed some of the lyrics a little bit to improve the song and there you have it.

Anarchy: Clutch can sound Country or Blues or whatever you want, but you always still sound like Clutch. How do you manage that, and is there anywhere that you don't think would be appropriate for Clutch to go? Also, whats the process of writing a song like? It starts with a riff, right?

Neil: Yeah, a riff comes. Myself, Tim (Suit, guitarist) or Dan (Maines, bassist) will write a riff and the others will learn it. We'll just sit there and stare at each other and wait for someone else to come up with one to compliment it. I think that because it's the same guys it's kind of an extension of our personalities. We play through the same set-up year after year after year. We're not adding some kind of signature effect or anything. It's just honest guitars and drums. After a while of kicking some riffs around, I bring it home and bang my head against a wall trying to think up lyrics. Sometimes they come in a day, sometimes it takes months. Sometimes they end up in the trash can, then they reappear. The guys in the band are really prolific. They write more riffs than i could ever write lyrics to. i just try to keep up with them.

Anarchy: You guys have so unreleased songs out there, "My Friends Call Me Bullseye", "Hot Off The Grill", a bunch of others...any plans to collect those or are we waiting for the 20 disc box set?

Neil: Well, we did something like that with Slow Hole To China, which collected a bunch of unreleased stuff that we could get our fingers on. I guess the unfortunate thing about being on so many labels is that a lot of our B sides are owned by companies who, just because they can, will not give them up even though they're not marketing them. They're just sitting on a shelf somewhere. We can only collect those releases that we owned. There's quite a few. We're just always so preoccupied on the future that things of the past get thrown by the wayside.

Anarchy: Speaking of the past, how do you view the more early, more hardcore stuff like The Passive Restraints and International Speedway League in comparison to what you're doing now?

Neil: I think it's the same guys but a different band. A more obvious thing to do when we realized what we wanted to do fromour self-titled or Elephant Riders would have been to rename the band. We just never did. Anyone's going to grow, if you listen to anyones work. That early stuff is when we were just teenagers. Biw I'm in my mid-thirties, as is everyone else. Hopefully you'll grow. that's what happened. you had to start somewhere. I think the aggression kind of turns me off a little bit, but I think that's because I heard it so much I just wanted to go somewhere else.

Anarchy: Do you have a least favorite or favorite song of your own?

Neil: That's like picking your favorite children. The new ones are always some of my favorites. I like "Black Umbrella" on the new record. I think I'd pick something off Transnational like "Heirloom 13" or some other jam like that.

Anarchy: This has nothing to do with you at all...Sabbath with Ozzy or Sabbath with Dio...who ya got?

Neil: Tough one, sort of like whats the sound of one hand clapping. I'm going to say...Ozzy.

Anarchy: Ah, interesting. that will add to the debate my friends and I are having over which is better.

Neil: You know, the reason why I say Ozzy is because I always think of their first couple of records, Black Sabbath, Sabotage, Volume 4, those are the best Sabbath songs. When Dio joined they should have just renamed the band, because those are great songs too. Later on, the newer material is not my favorite.

Anarchy: How did you hook up with the band Lionize to do a song?

Neil: From about 1985-1989 I worked for the singer's father, who owned a fish market. The singer, nate was 5 years old at the time. He coincidentally got into rock n roll and now he's in his 20's. He caught up with me and I met up with his dad. It was just old friends. they asked me to sing on one of their songs and I said "sure", and thats it.

Anarchy: Do you what what the set list is going to look like for the tour? Any plans to bring back "Binge And Purge" or some of the more obscure stuff?

Neil: It's tough to say. Our set list is 18 songs long, about 50% of which will be brand new stuff. At this point we can only pick 2 songs from each record. the songs that we don't play from Transnational Speedway league never come up in the discussions. I was always put off by that song just because it's kind of long. It's reputation kind of exceeds itself. We didn't play it for awhile and then when we did play it was kind of like "so what". it wasn't all it was cracked up to be.

Anarchy: What is the agenda as far as touring goes?

Neil: We're going out for 3 weeks in the states with Dub Trio and Five Horse Johnson. Then we're going to Europe and coming back and doing the states again. We're breaking the US into 3 little runs, about 4 weeks each so we'll be everywhere in teh US by mid-June.

Anarchy: Clutch fans, it's not like a lot of bands where they say 'Oh, I like 3 Doors Down" or whateevr. they LOVE Clutch. Who are these people? What is their story?

Neil: It's pretty widespread, which I like. It's not very specific. It's not like if they like "A" then they'll like "B". They either get it or they don't. I dont know exactly what it is that they latch onto, I'm just glad they do. we're lucky that we have fans that fans of live music. i think that has a lot to do with it. they're not just worried about what's hip. They probably saw us opening up for some other band, then they've been coming to the shows ever since. I'd rather have a relationship with the fans who come see us play then call in on the request line at the radio station. not that I don't want that to happen, I'm just trying to illustrate a point. I think they also don't take themselves too seriously. they've maybe latched onto a bit of the sense of humor that the band has.

Anarchy: Everybody I know that has seen you live will say that Clutch is the greatest band on the face of the earth, so i definitely think that the live experience plays into that.
From Beale Street To Oblivion is a great record, and it's really accessible...could this be The Year Of Clutch?

Neil: I'm not concerned about that. 2006 was a a great year for us. I'm not looking at the glass as half empty. If some more people want to join the fray then come on in.

Anarchy: Hopefully they will. I like to think of you as musical missionaries, preaching the gospel of kickass music. I'll take you over "Honkeytonk Badonkadonk" any day.

Neil: (laughs) To each his own.

release, His Last Walk. Having gained regional recognition by winning
several local battle-of-the-bands contests, the band draws influence from a
bevy of aggro bands like Underoath, Alexisonfire and As I Lay Dying, but is
equally as influenced by pop, hip-hop, rap, and even R&B, giving birth to a
new sound in the world of hard-hitting and unrelenting rock.
Absolutepunk.net raves "I was nothing less than blown away....a remarkable
amalgamation....I suggest picking it up and checking them out on tour."

Over the past few months blessthefall toured much of the U.S. and Canada

"A Vulgar Display of Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa" MJS Music Publications' Newest Title Will Benefit Charitable Causes

(Crystal River, Florida) March 14, 2007 MJS Music Publications
(www.MJSPublications.com) announced today that it has assigned a portion of
the proceeds from its new book, "A Vulgar Display Of Power: Courage and
Carnage at the Alrosa Villa," by Chris A. to charitable causes.

The Company's newest title will be released on April 14, 2007, and
chronicles the lives of Jeffery "Mayhem" Thompson, Nathan Bray, and Erin
Halk; three men who were killed on December 8, 2004, when they came to the
aid of famous heavy metal guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott after he was
attacked during a concert.

As the book relates, Abbott, formerly of Pantera, was performing with his
new band Damageplan at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, when thirty
seconds into the opening song, a deranged schizophrenic broke into the club,
bypassing the public entrance to access the stage, produced a 9mm pistol and
fired three point-blank shots, killing the guitarist, and later, those who
tried to save him.

Of the victims who lost their lives at the Alrosa Villa incident, Nathan
Bray is the only one survived by a wife and child. At the request of the
victim's families, a portion of all proceeds from "A Vulgar Display Of
Power: Courage and Carnage at the Alrosa Villa" will benefit the Anthony
Bray Scholarship Fund set up for Nathan's son.

In addition to traditional book sales to benefit the Anthony Bray
Scholarship Fund, several fund raising concerts and events are scheduled in
connection with the book release, in which 100% of proceeds will benefit the
scholarship fund and other charitable causes. Frank Thompson, the father of
Jeffery "Mayhem" Thompson, has requested an event in the Dallas/Ft Worth,
Texas area to provide support for a charity related to paranoid
schizophrenia, which afflicted the killer. Other events include a concert at
the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio on April 13; a Great White concert at the
Stratosphere in Las Vegas, Nevada on May 4; and a concert featuring the band
Smoke, at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ on May 12.

The official release date for "A Vulgar Display Of Power: Courage and
Carnage at the Alrosa Villa" is April 14. As of this release it is confirmed
that the book will be distributed at all Borders bookstores and several
Waldenbooks throughout the country. The mail order company, Musician's
Friend, will also carry the title.

Pre-orders can be placed for limited edition, autographed copies at the
publisher website, www.MJSPublications.com.

BURNING BRIDES TO RELEASE THIRD ALBUM, "HANG LOVE" ON APRIL 24!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BURNING BRIDES TO RELEASE THIRD ALBUM, "HANG LOVE"
New Deal Allows Brides to Own Master, Maintain Creative and Marketing
Control of Project

"Burning Brides have plenty of angst and tumult in their attack, but they
yowl with smarts and good tunes." -- Rolling Stone

Los Angeles, CA - (March 7, 2007) - Having played the major label game,
released 2004's critically-acclaimed "Leave No Ashes," been caught up in
label downsizing, and then walked away with their artistic integrity intact
and a six-figure check in their pockets, BURNING BRIDES are back with a
brand new album - but on their own terms. On April 24, "Hang Love" will be
released on the independent Modart imprint with distribution through
Caroline/EMI. Said Burning Brides' guitarist/vocalist Dimitri Coats, "We
may be one of the few bands doing it right now, but this is the way the
future is going to be. We own the masters, we dictate how and when we do
things, we take the risks."

Modern Artists Management¹s Les Borsai, who manages Burning Brides and
oversees the Modart imprint, presented the band with a business model in
which they could retain control over how ³Hang Love² was marketed, promoted,
and sold, and yet reap the majority share of the profits. ³Major label
deals are no longer structured to develop artists,² said Borsai, ³and many
bands get dropped after their first album, saddled with a huge debt to the
label. This arrangement will allow the Brides to make music and make a
living.² Caroline¹s sales staff will pound both the digital and
brick-and-mortar pavements, and the band will tour extensively.

"Hang Love," Burning Brides' third album, was produced by Coats and is a
raging slab of towering riffs and melodies, unrelentingly heavy rock that
coexists with a keen sense of pop melody. The band - Coats, his real-life
bride bassist Melanie Coats, and new drummer Pete Beeman (Guzzard), teamed
up last fall with engineer Mathias Schneeberger (Joseph Arthur, St. Vitus,
Mark Lanegan) and recorded the album over a six-week period at
Schneeberger's Arcadia, CA studio.

"We knew we had to make up for lost time and come out with the best Brides
album yet," confides Dimitri. "'Hang Love' is by far our heaviest album and
the best example of what and who we are. Our band is all about opposites,
we've always been into merging horror and humor with beauty and hope."

The album explodes with the first track, "Ring Around the Rosary," its
religious imagery mixed with some wicked metal. "Waring Street" is written
from the perspective of a serial killer loose in L.A.'s exclusive Hancock
Park area, "Unglued" is for anyone who has lost someone they loved, and
"Feel No Shame," with its Black Sabbath-meets-ZZ Top feel, is a song you
play in your car, cranked up high while driving down the highway and feeling
badass. "She Comes To Me," considered by Dimitri to be the record's
centerpiece, was written as a prayer to "please come back" when he and
Melanie were broken up for a time.

Burning Brides released its first album in 2001, "Fall of the Plastic
Empire," made for $5000 in a motorcycle garage in Philadelphia, and earned
its fair of share of comparisons to Nirvana's "Bleach." The band gained a
reputation for being great live, became a buzz band and found themselves in
a huge bidding war. Dimitri recalls, "We were the last of the unknown bands
to get a million dollar record deal." "Leave No Ashes," produced by George
Drakoulias (The Black Crowes, Tom Petty), was released in 2004, and received
great press - Esquire said that the album "matched sonic hugeness with
superbly crafted songs...a moody masterpiece." Despite the initial success,
the band was jettisoned from its record label, suffered drug problems,
personal and professional splits; then reconciliation, a move to Los
Angeles, marriage, a new drummer, and a fresh start.

Burning Brides, who have shared the stage with Audioslave, A Perfect Circle,
White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age, the Melvins and Mastodon, plan to
tour extensively in support of "Hang Love." Dates will be announced
shortly.

The track listing for Burning Brides¹ ³Hang Love² is as follows:
1. Ring Around the Rosary
2. San Diego
3. She Comes to Me
4. Waring Street
5. Your Nation Will Die
6. Unglued
7. Poor House

METAL BLADE RECORDS' 25th ANNIVERSARY & CELEBRATION!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

12TH MARCH 2007

METAL BLADE RECORDS' 25th ANNIVERSARY & CELEBRATION!

In 1982, METAL BLADE RECORDS began operating in a young Heavy Metal
fan's mom's garage in suburban Los Angeles.

The result of that metal fan's enthusiasm was the first Metal Blade
Records release, Metal Massacre, a local band compilation that included
METALLICA's first recorded release, BLACK N BLUE, MALICE, CIRITH UNGOL,
DEMON FLIGHT, BITCH, AVATAR, and PANDEMONIUM.

Twenty-Five years later, in 2007, METAL BLADE RECORDS has grown into an
international brand - occupying offices in the US, UK, Germany, Canada
and Japan - all the while maintaining its independent label identity and
the original vision of founder and CEO Brian Slagel.

It was Slagel's enthusiasm for heavy metal as a fan that encouraged its
humble beginnings and it is with that very same passion that Slagel has
lead Metal Blade Records to the forefront of the genre.

Over the last five years, METAL BLADE RECORDS' strength in mining and
developing new talent, lead to adding, at the time, stellar newcomers
UNEARTH, AS I LAY DYING, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and THE RED CHORD to
the roster. As the young guns that would help propel METAL BLADE RECORDS
forward, the bands combined to sell a staggering 1.5 million units in
the U.S.

The labels' recent successes do not tell the whole story however. METAL
BLADE RECORDS boasts one of the most comprehensive Heavy Metal catalogs
in the world, including seminal releases by SLAYER, CANNIBAL CORPSE,
GWAR, KING DIAMOND, SIX FEET UNDER, FATES WARNING, ARMORED SAINT,
MERCYFUL FATE and many more.

With a current roster that includes, in addition to the artists
mentioned above, AMON AMARTH, HATE ETERNAL, GOATWHORE, 3, EVERGREEN
TERRACE, CATTLE DECAPITATION, SHAI HULUD and probably the most
anticipated debut release from a metal band in years, JOB FOR A COWBOY,
METAL BLADE RECORDS, at twenty five years old, is reaching its prime.

2007 will not only celebrate the 25 years of Metal Blade, it will also
be the year that showcases new releases by artists that represent Metal
Blade's future - the third, and highly anticipated album by AS I LAY
DYING, the sophomore release by THE RED CHORD, and a debut album for
JOB FOR A COWBOY. In addition 2007 will also see new releases KING
DIAMOND, SIX FEET UNDER and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.

Throughout the years, Brian Slagel has become a prominent figure in the
metal community, and continues to run METAL BLADE RECORDS independently
without being an imprint of any major label.

"I am really proud that Metal Blade has reached our 25th anniversary. It
has been a great ride and we have worked with so many amazing people
over the years. I have to thank all of our staff, artists, fans,
writers, retail, radio, managers, agents and everyone else who helped us
achieved this landmark. I look forward to the future as Heavy Metal and
Metal Blade remain strong."

To celebrate the significant milestone in Metal Blade's 25th year, there
will be a Metal Blade Records 25th Anniversary Show at the New England
Metal & Hardcore Festival on Saturday 28th April 2007 at THE PALLADIUM
in Worcester, PA. As a title sponsor of this event, Metal Blade Records
artists will solely command both stages. The show will be filmed and
recorded for a forthcoming release. MTV's HEADBANGERS BALL will also be
on hand to film and interview artists and staffers for a special Metal
Blade Records episode.

"MTV2 and Headbangers Ball our proud to celebrate Metal Blade's 25th
Anniversary at the 2007 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Tune
into Headbangers Ball on 5/12 to see exclusive coverage from the show"

Out Of The Cellar: Jordan interviews "Hell Bent For Leather: Confessions Of A Heavy Metal Addict" author Seb Hunter
sebhunter.jpg

Good day Anarchy! This month I decided to have something a little different in the Cellar. It's still music related and I'm sure you're gonna love it. I interviewed the writer of the book Hell Bent For Leather: Confessions Of A Heavy Metal Addict. Mr. Seb Hunter. I think that the title pretty much sums up what the book's about. Seb tells us about his life as a musician and general Heavy Metal junkie. The book is very, very funny and I'm sure whether you love Kiss, Poison, Hanoi Rocks, Metallica, Guns N' Roses damn even Nirvana you will love this book. Seb has also written another book which I'm currently reading, it's called Rock Me Amadeus... Or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Handel. You like that don't you? Haha. Oh by the way, if me and Seb start talking about British tv channels and stuff don't get confused! Anyway, enough. On with the interview!

Jordan: Hey Seb, so first off let's take a look the the future, when can we
expect to see a new book? What will it be about?

Seb Hunter: I'm halfway through my third book, which documents my attempts to become a
"better person" through doing as much different volunteer work as possible:
from litter-picking to meals-on-wheels; from Oxfam to hospital radio; from
attempting to become a police community support officer to bingo calling for
pensioners. This is my first book not about music, but the facile humour is
just the same as ever.

Jordan: Your most famous, successful book to date is Hell Bent For Leather, how
does it feel to know Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden and no doubt quite a few other celebrities enjoyed the read?

Seb: Well, that's also the only book to date. My second book, "Rock Me Amadeus:
When Ignorance Meets High Art, Things Can Get Messy", comes out in paperback
this summer - in June, to be precise. But to answer the question: I'm
delighted whenever any fucker reads and enjoys one of my books. Bruce
Dickinson only read it cos he was interviewing me for his radio show, but he
did say nice things about it and I was chuffed. Sadly I'm not aware of any
other rock stars or indeed celebrities who have read it. Actually no, Julian
Barrett out of the Mighty Boosh read it and sent me a sweet email, and then
from out of that, he appeared in the short film version. And he's brilliant
in it too.

Jordan: Hell Bent For Leather is soon to be turned into a short film to be shown
on television, what can you tell us about this, did you contact them or did
they ask you?

Seb: Film Four commissioned the short film kind of like an "audition" for
director (and scriptwriter) James Wood for the feature film proper. If the
guys at Film Four like what they see in the short, then they'll release
squillions of pounds and James ought to get to make the feature film later
this year. I'll be heavily involved in this too (I hope). There was a
screening of the short film at Channel Four a few weeks ago, and so fingers
crossed they'll give the project the thumbs-up. It's been fantastic getting
the thing this far, to be honest. And apparently the short film (which is
only 20 minutes long) is going to be shown on Channel Four too at some
point. They might as well put it on, seeing as how they paid for it and all.
The short film is very much in the spirit of the book - the jump-cutting and
the humour and all - they've done a great job and it's very funny.

Jordan: Okay so when the film is finally released who will be playing you?
Yourself or an actor? Whose decision was this?

Seb: Sadly I can't pass for a 17 year-old these days; nor do I possess any acting
skills. In the short film there are three actors playing me. The 10 year-old
me is a sweet kid called Lawrence; the 17 year-old me is played by a lovely
guy named Richard Dean, and the voiceover, (contemporary me) is the Mighty
Boosh's Julian Barrett. This is all way too much me, obviously. If I were to
actually appear as well as all these other mes, viewers would vomit, and
nobody wants that. Although saying that I do make a brief cameo; indeed all
of the real-life Trash can Junkies do - we play my dad's old jazz band, the
Burning Jaspers.

Jordan: Because of Hell Bent we all know you as Mr. Sex, Drugs and Rock N' Roll,
however you've written a book called Rock Me Amadeus which is about, what?
Classical music? But before deciding to write the book is it not true that
you knew nothing about Classical music? How does that book work then?

Seb: The basic concept behind writing Rock Me Amadeus was: can somebody who knows
absolutely fuck all about classical music feel as passionate about it as the
rock music he's loved his whole life? Thus the book follows my journey
across Europe (and, erm, history) as I attempt to get to grips with it all.
It's like a weird, fucked-up musical travelogue involving lots of bad
language and drunkenness. Not so different from the first book, really.

Jordan: Is it true that from time to time you break out the Faster Pussycat
albums or perhaps even... Pretty Boy Floyd?

Seb: Erm, not really. But I still listen to a lot of AC/DC, Van Halen and Black
Sabbath. My favourite contemporary band is probably the almighty Sunn0))). I
do still rate the first Pussycat album though - a classic of its time, for
sure. Although saying that, their second was a better record.

Jordan: Okay so when did you decide to write Hell Bent For Leather, why did you
think this was something people would be interested in reading, surely
having dreams of making it big in a Rock band were pretty common stuff?

Seb: Well, I guess I thought - in the face of all these endless, hubristic,
self-righteous rock star autobiogs that pile up around us - that it would be
fun to write the same kind of thing, but from the perspective of a total
rock failure. In other words, to write about what happens to most people who
attempt to do this! I decided to be brutally honest and self-mocking, and
the tone just seemed to work. I thoroughly enjoyed writing it - it was like
a giant exorcism of my youth.

Jordan: Your new band Crater is a far cry from the Glam and Sleaze stuff of The
Trash Can Junkies and Cat Ballou, is this just a band for fun or do you feel you could make some waves this time round?

Seb: We're an experimental improv band, so we're not doing this for the bucks.
That said, I know for sure we're making waves already: standing waves, sine
waves, sometimes we go out and record actual waves in the sea. Why not come
down and see us (for free!) at The Social, Little Portland Street, London,
on Tuesday May 29th?

Jordan: When I contacted you about this interview you were off to Los Angeles,
was that a business trip or just a holiday? Did you head down to Sunset
Strip to take a look what could have been?

Seb: My friend is writing a book about his youthful obsession with Dr Who, and we
went to Los Angeles to visit a Dr Who convention. How fucking sad is that? I
don't even fucking like Dr Who; but my friend took me along because he
thought my presence would be "amusing". But he paid for the whole trip, so I
wasn't complaining. And, after a few days' Dr Who horror, I managed to
escape into the desert, so it wasn't all bad. And yes, we hit Sunset Strip -
we met Lemmy in the Rainbow Bar & Grill. He was friendly. I didn't ask him
if he'd read Hell Bent; I was too drunk; as was Lemmy. Probably. I can't
really remember.

Jordan: Well thanks for your time Seb, I usually do ten questions and I can't
break that tradition now, but I can't think of anything so erm... I stole
this from the Hobbies section of your MySpace page "Helping old ladies
across the road for merely one pound seventy five" Is there any truth to
this or is it just random quick-fire improvised writing?

Seb: Yes it's true, but I've recently raised my price to two pounds. This is due
to the recent rise in interest rates by the Bank of England. It's a very
competitive field of work, and the tips are terrible.

CD Review: Money Mark -- Brand New By Tomorrow
money mark.jpg

When I recieved this cd in the mail from our friends at Motown my first thought was "Why?". Money mark first made a name for himself by suplying the music to the Beastie Boys classic album Check You Head, but we don't cover rap on this site. Of course, i was unaware of mark's post Beasties production work with Beck on Guero and John Spencer's Blues Explosion on Now I Got Worry, as well as a few of his own eclectic solo discs. His latest, Brand New By Tomorrow, is the first release from Jack Johnson's new label, Brushfire Records. Given what you've already read, you should have no idea what to expect from this album. Neither did I...so let's find out

This is not a rap abum, or even alternative rock. Instead, it's a collection of sweet and somber, mostly acoustic and piano driven songs about life and the pains that come with it. Surprisingly though, it's a musically upbeat album and that contrast works well. In lesser hands this may not have ended up as a cohesive release, but mark is one hell of a producer, not to mention a talented multi-instrumentalist. On this album he sings, plays guitar (acoustic and electric), bass, drums, melodica, synth, piano (upright, electric and grand), electric harpsichord, strings, celeste, omnichord, and harp (whew!).

The first single "Pick Up The Pieces" was co-written by Johnson and boasts a guest appearance by the legendary Carol Kaye of the Beach Boys on bass. "Summer Blue" is funky while "Color Of Your Blues" is slightly Beatles-esque. I imagine that Mark's vocals will also bring to mind John Lennon to many listeners. "Pretend To Sleep" is a sweet ballad, and probably my favorite song on the album, thanks in large part to the backing vocals by Cava. "My Loss Your Gain" reminds me of a Marvelous 3 song for some reason and being followed by the excellent "Everyday I Die A Little" makes the middle of this cd very strong and moving. "Radiate Nothing" bounces along at a cheery pace while singing about a love that's died, and "Black Butterfly" is a must listen if only due to the fact that it's written about a young person that he know that took to wearing a lot of black clothing. "Brand New By Tomorrow" is about a couple who is breaking up. It's a beautiful end to the album and there isn't a person out there that won't identify with it.

With so much going on here you'd think that this wouldn't be an easy album to wrap your head around, but it maintains a classic pop sensibility while experimenting with as many different sounds as he can sneak in. While coming off as deceptively simple, this isn't pop by numbers. It's reaching for a bit more than that. Those of you who appreciate acoustic music and Jack Johnson fans should dig this. I could even see jam band fans getting into this. I'll pull this out along with my Gavin Degraw and Val Emmich cds when I want to change up the pace from my normal routine of metal. More than anything, this is an album for those who like to soak their music up like a form of meditation. I had no clue what to expect when I put this into the cd player, but what I got what the heart and soul of Money Mark in 11 chapters.

Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2 Gears Up For Release on May 9, 2007
Featuring Poetry by Fall Out Boy, Chiodos, Atreyu, Firescape, Deftones, Rx Bandits, Meg & Dia, Motion City Soundtrack, and many more!

cover.gif

SANTA ANA, CA -
How do you follow-up a wickedly successful debut book of poetry from some of the biggest names in the post-hardcore/indie rock world, without losing your edge or finesse, and more importantly, your cred? You can't, unless you plan on surpassing your previous concept with a second volume, promising bigger, better, and more powerful works from some of the visionaries that populate the youth-dominated music scene. And ready for the challenge, Rich Balling (Rx Bandits, The Sounds of Animals Fighting, Cowboy Communist) has compiled Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2: Poetry from the Indie Music Scene which will be released through Warner Books in conjunction with Ad Astra Books on May 9, 2007.

A veritable who's who of who matters in today's indie rock scene, this highly-anticipated follow-up to the widely successful first volume collects poetry, poems and ruminations that range from the hysterically funny (Home Grown's John Tran "About Me:") to the achingly sad (Classic Case's Jared Draughon "New York City Vampires"), and everything in-between (ActionReaction's Jason Gleason "If Humans Have Heartbeats, Do Robots Have Heartbeeps?").

In the unfiltered spirit of Ginsberg and Bukowski but with a more vibrant and youthful buoyancy, these poems and stories of Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2 continue to reclaim the power of the verse for today's kids. Who should show them the guiding power and spirit of the pen other than the artists themselves who most inspire them?

Critical praise for the first tome had been overwhelmingly positive with many in the media showering the book with kudos. Alternative Press hailed, "The book is punk poetry both at its finest," while Teen People chimed, "Music is poetry. And artists from Something Corporate, Finch and more prove it in Revolution on Canvas, a cool new anthology of poems from your
favorite indie rockers." With almost 50,000 in book sales total for the first volume, anticipation for this follow-up has been building to a deafening volume.

The inimitable Rich Balling who compiled, collected and edited Revolution on Canvas, Volume 2, built his own legacy starting with his five-year stint in the ska/indie rock group Rx Bandits and continued on with his collaborations with The Sounds of Animals Fighting and Cowboy Communist. Up until recently, Balling lectured on music and music industry at California State University, Fullerton but left the West Coast to the sandier climes of Texas.
