Concert Review: Placebo Spring Tour '07
By Simay

STEF1.jpg

“Farewell, Nancy Boy," I had whispered to no one in particular, yet particularly to Brian Molko, after I saw Placebo for the first time in November 2006. After missing them twice when they played in Istanbul, Turkey (my hometown), I thought I would never get to see them. Therefore, my first time felt like last, and I thought I was dreaming when I found out they would be back in Philly, this time with Evaline.

evaline1.jpg

Until I saw them at the Taste of Chaos in March, all I knew about Evaline was the Quinn from The Used produced their album. This led me to think that they would sound like The Used. But they don’t, really.

EVALINE2.jpg

These four boys from Turlock, California – Richard, Christian, Dominic and Steven – had a teeny-tiny bit of room to move around on TLA”s already-small stage. With microphone cables and a vocalist (Richard) flying around, they managed to make the crowd go wild. It’s true: Richard does not stay in one spot for more than two seconds. You see him at the end of the stage yelling into the microphone, then, all of a sudden, he sits down, rocks the cello for a while, singing into a different microphone. Then he jumps up and down on the keyboards before he steps on his chair and moves on to the drum set. As one of the Event Staff put it after the set, “That’s one strong keyboard.” Afterwards, I did want to grab a set list to write down the songs, but they didn’t have any – I’m serious.

placebo1.jpg

Placebo were as good as they were in November. What made it much better was the fact that I could see they were having much more fun. My guess is that they were happy about headlining this time and having the chance to play more songs. Stef and Brian were joking around on stage, making the crowd sing the “param-pam-pam-pa-rara” of Special K louder and louder.

placebo2.jpg

Whoever thought of putting stands in between the stage and the security bars is a genius. Both Stef and Brian used them often, which led to chaos, a rather pleasant one: hands rose up and reached for Molko, caressing his legs and probably ass as well. The best part was though that he went on playing in the same spot with a big grin on his face.

placebo3.jpg

They played Meds songs mostly, throwing in their older hits i.e. “Without You I’m Nothing” and “Every You Every Me.” Evaline’s Richard and his cello joined in on the last song, “20 Years,” which was an amazing score that led to extreme cheers. Here’s the complete set list: Infra Red, Meds, Because I Want You, Drag, Soulmates Never Die, I Know, Song to Say Goodbye, Follow the Cops Back Home, Every You Every Me, Special Needs, One of a Kind, Without You I’m Nothing, Bionic, Blind, Special K, Running, Taste in Men, 20 Years.

After I digest this, boys, I’ll need more meds.

Kotzen is our April Fan Of The Month!

Who is KK Kotzen? That's a question that people have asked for centuries...okay...years. Is he an internet celebrity? Is he the mastermind of a multi-billion dollar internet wrestling league? Does he even exist at all? The truth of the matter is that there's a little bit of KK Kotzen in us all. Now, the man...the myth...speaks out in a completely honest and forthcoming way as he is named our April Fans Of The Month. He's getting a free cd for taking part in this, and if you would like to be considered for Fan Of The Month, just let us know at anarchy@anarchymusic.net.

And now...a look inside the enigma that is KK Kotzen...

Name: Kevin K Kotzen (the K stands for "Kwality")

Age: I am timeless, like your mom.

City/State: SC Klik baby!

Single?: I am still mourning the loss of my last girlfriend, who died from injuries sustained in a car crash.

If so, what’s going to turn your head?
Bad breaks, apparently.

Go ahead; tell us about yourself...hobbies, interests, that sort of thing:
Well, I am the former CEO of a huge wrestling company that dominated the internet while underneath my iron fist. I also like hanging out with my friends The Enforcer, Chris, Nikita, Sherry, Hector and Carman.

Do you have a Myspace or blog you want to plug?
No

What other web sites do you go to other than this one?:
None worth mentioning.

Have you ever won anything from Anarchy Music?:
Is getting tail from hot Emo chicks considered "winning something"? If so, no...no I haven't.

What cd would you like to get for being our Fan Of The Month?
Macho Man Randy Savage's album. I already own it, but I play it so much that I need a backup copy.

It's April, did you play any April Fool's pranks??
Just this one. I think my friend Young Yeoman was planning something with some kids that he said was going to be funny.

What are some of your favorite bands?
Macho Man Randy Savage, Extreme, Ratt, Flock Of Seagulls, Barracus

How about some bands you can’t stand?
Emo. I hate all Emo bands.

How did the VA Tech shootings affect you?
It made me realize that there are some real psychos out there who are just waiting to kill strangers. They get wrapped up in their paranoia and one day decide to snap and kill people. People who are that angry at complete strangers should be locked away in institutions for the rest of thier lives.

What’s your best concert experience so far?
Extreme, or Ratt. Both were awesome..

Any cool shows or cds coming out that you're excited about?:
My friend Van is excited about the next Poison cd.

What’s the music scene like in your hometown/school/whatever?
How should I know? I sit at the computer 24/7 just flamin' lamers!

Name one band that everyone needs to check out and why:
Macho Man Randy Savage. Famous for his wrestling career and Slim Jim commercials, Mach has also cut a rap album with The Legendary DJ Kool that is the greatest music my ears have ever heard.

Thousands of people you've never met will read this, you might as well speak your mind about whatever the hell you want, silly or serious...go for it...or not:
Yes, there is one very important thing that I would like to say...
Fuck Ette, I'm glad she's gone.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season 8
The Anarchist reviews issues 1 and 2 of the comic
buffy.jpg

When the Buffy The Vampire Slayer tv series ended most fans assumed that that would be the end, or hoped for a major motion picture to continue the saga. However, neither of those were the case though as series creator Joss Whedon has brought the story to his true love, comic books. Whedon has teamed with Dark Horse comics to publish what would have been Season 8 of the tv show. For Buffy fans this is a must buy item as it is the official continuation the Buffy-verse. How official? Whedon himself is writing it, so that should let you know. I know what some of you are thinking..."I don't read comics". Well, it's time to get over that so you can continue to enjoy some of your favorite characters written by the man who created them! Would Joss let his loyal fans down? No, he wouldn't.

However, what aout those who did not watch the Buffy series? For some reason I managed to never actually see the show at all. I know the basics: a cute girl with hot friends kills vampires. Willow's a lesbian and Buffy's hometown of Sunnydale got destroyed. That's about it really. So how does the book stand up for someone who isn't already a fan? Lets find out!

It's pretty obvious from the offset that a lot has changed in this world. There had previously always been only one Slayer, but now there are 1,800 spread out all over the world. Buffy is essentially their leader and trainer after having been the catalyst for a huge change in the world. I'm not sure why the world needs so many Slayers, but it's safe to assume that t means that some major ass-kicking is going to go down soon so I'm totally sold on the concept. In issue 1, Buffy leads a small SWAT team into some sort of church that has been attacked by demons. Inside, she comes across a mystery in the form of a strange symbol that one of the church/cult members had carved into his own chest. Uncovering the secret behind this symbol will help the team figure out exactly what is going on.

Meanwhile, there are some other things gong on that I'm sure would make more sense to those of you who watched the tv show. Some guy named Xander runs a huge technologically advanced group that helps Buffy out, while the feds make a discovery in the remains of Sunnydale. Also, Dawn's a giant and Willow is gone. This all makes me wish that there had been a story synopsis on page 1 to help us newbies catch up on things. However, the show was so popular that it's reasonable to cater to it's fans who might be reading a comic for the very first time as opposed to the other way around.

The government blames Buffy for the destruction of Sunnydale and wants her dead. There is a scene where Buffy's Slayers are compared to terrorist cells, and that simple comparison brought the book to a new level. Another mention of how people kill in the name of religion strengthens that element. We are dealing with vampires and demons and magic, but this is the real world, which can be even more scary than whatever Buffy might come across. This, along with a few Star Wars and comic book references to make geeks like me feel at home go a long way to draw the non-Buffy fans into the story. We've established that Buffy fans should be reading this, but even if you don't know anything about the Buffy universe, comic readers do know about terrorists and shady government military factions. Lets get real here though...comic fans...its a massive team of hot chicks fighting demons...you KNOW you want to read this book!

Speaking of hot chicks, the most important element of the art would have to be the rendering of the cast. While in the first few pages of issue one artist Georges Jeanty didn't quite have Buffy's look down, about midway through he began to develop her features to look more like Buffy actress Sarah Michelle Gellar. There's some great renderings of her eyes and facial expressions as well. It's not often that I will stop reading a comic to look at the pictures, but Jeanty's renderings are often so engaging, especially in the quiet scenes, that I felt compelled to linger for awhile before turning the page. Also, while it may have taken a few pages to capture the main character's look, he nails the surprise guest stars perfectly. His art is clean and not overbearing, which is important since you are drawing to appeal to non-comic readers. The demons look cool and the story flows well. Jeanty gives it a nice cross-mix of superheroic adventure with real world anatomy and physicality. A lesser artist could have either taken the book into the more comfortable territory of bulging biceps and barely there clothing, or made too much of an attempt to look indie. Buffy is perfectly balanced between the two. Kudos!

For me the most important aspect of this is the story. What threat are the Slayers training for? How will they fight that threat AND the US military? What does that weird symbol mean and what will it's ramifications be when the secret is revealed? What role will Buffy's tv friends play in her future? These are all questions that will keep me tuned in once a month for the latest issue/episode. Whedon has a knack for mixing paranormal action with personal drama while keeping the dialogue natural. He also knows when to lighten the mood with a well placed one liner. His excellent work on Astonishing X-Men has earned him the devotion of a legion of comic fans in addition to the fans of his tv series and movies. In other words, this book should be selling like crazy. Issue's 1 and 2 are in comic shops and on newstands now, and issue 3 will be released on May 2. I reccomend this book to comic fans who like some horror and magic with their superhero action, and I STRONGLY reccomend this to any and all fans of the Buffy tv show. You definitely need to pick this up!

Anarchy Music checks out the Taste Of Chaos tour
By The Anarchist, Simay and Katie Romance. Photos by Courtney Sultan

Dr. Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars prescribes a healthy dose of rock to his patients

Ah, the refreshing flavor of Taste Of Chaos! It's the yearly showcase of the top Warped Tour style bands and once again the line-up was a dreamteam for scene kids nationwide: The Used, 30 Seconds To Mars, Senses Fail, Saosin, Aiden, Chiodos and Evaline...can't beat that! I went to the Atlanta, GA show with our awesome photographer Courtney Sultan, who took all of the pics for this article, while Simay saw the show in Philadelphia, PA and Katie Romance went to the Dayton, OH event.

When it comes to telling people what I think of a band live, I’m pretty rough about it. It takes a lot to get me to like a band live -- especially if I don’t know any of their songs. It’s a cold, hard fact: if the crowd is into it (and a lot of the time, it shows if they are singing along to the songs with all their heart), it makes the show 100 times better. I went into seeing Evaline not really expecting much because they were the little band (and I, honestly, was there to see two other bands that I am a hardcore fan of). But it took me two seconds to be hooked on their performance and not pay attention to anything else. The greatest selling point of this band’s live show is their VERY energetic lead singer. He’s all over the stage and is more than just a lead singer (he plays a couple different instruments, too). The highlight of the show was when he fell OFF the stage, cracking his face off of not only the stage but also the floor and then he got up and continued without missing a beat (I about died and was so scared for him). The fact that he could continue to sing without missing anything really impressed me.

Chiodos just about stole the whole damn show. The fact of the matter is that they are the most eclectic and talented of all the "scene" bands. Introduced by a guy in a pink bunny suit, they launched into a brand new, as yet untitled track that shows that the flashes of brilliance on their debut All's Well That Ends Well was just a teaser for what the band has in store for their fans. The bands manic energy combined with a fine display of musicianship is such a welcome addition to the stale music landscape that I always welcome any opportunity to pimp them out on this site. The cord definitely recognized and went crazy for songs like "We;re Gonna Have Us A Champagne Jam" and "The Words 'Best Friends' Become Redifined". With each time I see them the crowds are more and more familiar with this band, and you can tell that they are right on the verge of a major breakthrough. perhaps then they can stop being the opening act that steals the show and become the headliner that everyone knows will absolutely kill.

Aiden’s Wil first asked the crowd, “Can’t you guys all come closer?” When he realized most of the crowd couldn’t get into the pit area, “[You can’t] ‘cos you got sea tickets, BOO,” he said. In an attempt to really get the crowd moving, “Wake up,” he yelled, “push these fucking people back. I want to see some broken bones!” Of course, there were no broken bones even though I did see a bunch of kids start a moshpit in the pit area. Aiden was much better than the last time I’ve seen them live, but the crowd was just very weird in general: not many people showed up until 6:30-7:00, I got weird looks when I stood up on my seat to scream my guts out, and most people around me didn’t even bother to sing along. There was one crazy fan girl in the crowd though, who apparently wanted Wil’s babies, to which he replied, “I don’t have any babies, and I don’t know if I could give them to you if I had any.” Aiden’s setlist was as follows: Last Sunrise, Die Romantic, We Sleep Forever, I Set My Friends on Fire, The Suffering, World By Storm.

I'll add here that not only did Aiden hang out for their alotted time for the meet and greet, but they stuck around for the rest of the night signing autographs and taking pictures with fans. I can't wait for this band to get absolutely huge, since they are one of the hardest working and most appreciative bands on the planet. They also put on the best performance of the night (and just about any other night on any other tour they are ever on).

I'm not exactly sure why Saosin was on after Aiden. The band wasn't billed higher than them in any of the promo materials I had seen, and with all due respect, they shouldn't have followed an act like that. Aidens psychotic, stagediving, dynamic set made the softer, more subtle performance look kind of boring. Saosin following Chiodos would have been a much better fit, as certainly the styles mesh a lot better. Apparently the bands change up as far as who plays when so that could be to blame for what ended up being a bit of a crowd killer. The truth is that the band is actually pretty good. I am not the world's biggest Emo fan, but I much prefer their more melodic approach to a lot of the whiny screaming that permeates the current music landscape. The band just has no business following a band that outperforms them and overpowers them as much as Aiden does (and Saosin will soon be headliningg over Poison The Well...so I don't see my opinion changing much anytime soon).

Senses Fail...where do I begin? First of all, I simply don't understand why they are so popular. They sound exactly like a million other bands, with no amazing hooks or melodies to seperate them from the pack. So, why are they so much more successful than most others in their genre? I tend to chalk it up to a better marketing strategy. Our cd reviewer Al The Killer would want me to point out that he thinks that Senses Fail is the very best screamo band around, but even he agrees that the band is terrible in concert. The sound is muddy and lifeless. I'm bored.

30 Seconds To Mars' stage decorations made me feel like I was walking through China Town. When I remembered their latest video, “From Yesterday,” it all made sense, until their opening song: Carmino Borana (O’fortuna). Powerful choice, I must admit, yet it felt strange hearing this tune as I stared at the Chinese decorations, waiting for the band to come on. As soon as they broke into their first song, A Beautiful Lie, I could tell why the crowd was sleeping earlier: they were there for 30 Seconds to Mars, and there was no stopping them once they heard Jared Leto yell, “You’re all nuts; make this the best night of your entire life.” He jumped into the crowd, still singing and taking his time, even though he had once broken his nose at a show doing the exact same thing. 30 Seconds to Mars’s setlist was as follows: A Beautiful Lie, From Yesterday, Savior, The Kill, The Fantasy, Attack.

Remember what I said about Aiden? 30STM is pretty much the opposite. Not only are they all hype, with very little beyond the stageshow to back up all of the praise that they get, but they treated their fans with what I can only describe as "disgust". Yeah, they did the autograph signing that they were scheduled to do, but they acted as if their fans were a complete nuissance to them and were far ruder than the long line would dictate them being. Oddly, frontman (and only legitimate star in the band) Jared Leto was the only member who actually treated the fans with respect and kindness. This has nothing to do with the concert, mind you, but since most of the crowd missed The Used so they could meet 30STM I figured it was worthwhile to let people know that they should spend that time checking out the headliner instead.

As I waited for The Used to take the stage, I was getting more and more excited. They haven’t been touring for more than a year now, and I didn’t know what to expect. They opened up with “Take It Away,” and I realized they were The Used I knew and loved, sounding much better than they did a year ago. Quinn still throws his head back and forth as he plays the guitar, Jepha has the weird stage moves, and Bert is still funny and energetic, breaking into silly tunes like, “This sock doesn’t match the other sock,” and “Fuck me and fuck you too; it’s just a fucking joke.” It was obvious that they were excited to be playing live again, and they did want to taste the chaos, and hoping everyone would “remember the night forever.” Bert actually threw his credit card at the crowd as a give-back, and told them to go shopping – for the ones who’re wondering, the pin code is 8525. The Used had the longest set, of course. They played “Box Full of Sharp Objects,” with Aiden’s Wil joining in on the vocals and smooching Bert afterwards, which got the loudest cheer and applause of the entire night. The Used’s setlist is as follows: Take It Away, I Caught Fire (In Your Eyes), Liar Liar, Taste of Ink, All That I’ve Got, Buried Myself Alive, On My Own, Handsome Awkward, Box Full of Sharp Objects, Hospital – the ones you don’t recognize from before will be on their new album, Lies for the Liars, which comes out on May 22nd.

The Used3.jpg

Overall, I must say that this was just about the perfect line-up for this type of show. Each band got a good length to play, as opposed to other tours where a million bands play for fifteen minutes and they all bleed into each other. Also, I can't say enough good things about the set design. The intermission between most bands was only about 4 minutes, as the stage turned to reveal the next bands set up. This was awesome and helped to keep the vibe flowing. My biggest complaint is something that occurs at so many shows that I'm shocked that it keeps getting repeated. A concert needs to build and build so that by the time the headliner takes the stage the crowd is a frenzied mess. Here, the tempo and performance levels of the bands went from soft to hard and back down again, and those trips back down tend to kill the building energy. Also, as much as I hate to say it, 30 Seconds To Mars was the true headliner as so many fans missed The Used that they may have had a smaller crowd than the first few bands played to. I understand the concept of hitting the crowd with a million different styles and mixing up who goes where, but it doesn't make any sense when it interupts the natural flow of a concert. A line-up such as Evaline, Saosin, Chiodos, Senses Fail, Aiden, The Used and 30 Seconds To Mars would have given the crowd a better experience, even though the bands would have been the same. Needless to say though, few left unhappy with what they recieved. Most seemed to be going for one particular band, so they got what they came for and hopefully heard some music from the other bands that they will want to check out further.

I want to thank our friends Chiodos and Aiden for their help, and Earshot Media for the hook up. You guys rule! Also, a big thank you to Courtney for taking these pics for us. If you're in the Atlanta area and need some pics done, let me know and I'll get you in touch with Courtney.

Interview with Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel

machine head.jpg

After flirting with Nu-Metal and rapping (just kidding guys), Machine Head have defied the odds and returned with an absolute vengeance. The bands new album The Blackening is far and away the bands best work since their classic debut release Burn My Eyes. It's brutal and beautiful all at once. Much like last years Monotheist by Celtic Frost, Machine Head are Metal veterans who are showing the young bands of today that there is more to being a Heavy Metal band than just noise. The Blackening is everything that metal should be: Anger with a purpose, craftmanship and skill behind the thrashing, and a sense of depth and power that goes beyond mere heavy-for-the sake-of-being-heavy. I spoke with guitarist Phil Demmel just after the release of the album to get the inside scoop on how the band created a modern day Metal classic.

Anarchy Music: Congratulations on the new album. Not only are a lot of people saying it's the best Metal album of the year, some are calling it the best Metal album of all time!

Phil Demmel: Crazy huh? (laughs)

Anarchy: You always read in magazines about records that are supposed to be good but when you hear them they aren't as impressive as you're led to believe. This really does live up to the hype. Tell me about the mindset you were in when you went into the studio to create this album.

Phil: Well, we were trying to follow the same formula we did for the last record. That being writing for ourselves and what makes us happy as musicians. Let's not worry about label intervention or what radio might want. Let's do what we want. If there's a riff that needs another part, let's give the song what it needs to have to become a song.

Anarchy: No disrespect, but this is a band that a lot of people had written off for one reason or another and said that Machine Head was past their prime. Was there any desire to say "shut up, we're going to release an album that's going to rip your fucking face off"?

Phil: Well, I think that especially here in the US even for the new record all the articles you're going to read say "after flirting with Nu-Metal and rapping and blah blah blah". There's always going to be that stigma here in America for some fucking reason and we don't know why and it sucks. I think that for whatever reason over here people just weren't feeling it. Overseas the band was drawing more and more every time we go over there. Here for some reason there's this stigma attatched. I guess we weren't in the right clique, the Hot Topic clique or MTV clique. This is an album for us and we just hope everybody else likes it.

Anarchy: It must suck to be in the Talent clique, where you may not be cool, but you are fucking good.

Phil: Yeah (laughs)

Anarchy: There's a lot of solos on this record, there's some moster fucking riffs. Also, some of the songs are longer than what you typical hear these days. Did you go in intending to bring in a more oldschool vibe with more solo and epic sounding songs?

Phil: One of the preconcieved ideas was to bring back the epic feel. We wanted a big sounding album with epic riffs. The solos by nature was just Rob (Flynn, vocals/guitar) and I vibing off each other. There's no selfishness involved. Even Adam (Duce, bass) doing some bass things here and there.

Anarchy: You and Rob have worked together off and on for years since the days in your previous band Vio-lence, and since you've been in Machine Head the band has been in a creative upswing. Do you feel like you guys have a natural chemistry that brings out the best in each other?

Phil: Well, we grew up playing guitar together so we have very similiar playing styles and pretty similiar performance levels. He's a stronger rhythm player and I think I'm a stronger lead player. We draw off each others strengths. I think that there is such a chemistry there that some of the harmonies are just organic. We just know what each other is going to do.

Anarchy: There's also a strong sense of melody on this album, which is something that all great metal bands have. Early Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax, Celtic Frost, Machine Head...you've all got melody, but it's something most metal bands seem to overlook when creating songs. How important is melody to the sucess of this album?

Phil: I think that it draws in peripheral fans that are fans of the songs. I think that Rob's got an amazing way of structuring vocal melodies and hooks that draws in peripheral fans that are into the powerful stuff but want to hear some melody as well. I think we cover both bases there. And like I said, it's organic. Rob has just manufactured his voice right now to where he's just singing amazing. Adam too, the harmonies are excellent.

Anarchy: You had planned to release a video for "Now I Lay Thee Down", but I know that plans have changed. What's the latest on that?

Phil: We filmed a video for "Now I Lay Thee Down". It's track four, so it's a little more mellow, but we wanted to come out heavier. We're coming out with "Aesthetics Of Hate". We filmed it yesterday. That's goingt o be the first video.

Anarchy: That song is about the media reaction to Dimebag Darrell's death. I remember when I came home and heard that it had happened, I turned on CNN and they were making light of the very tragic situation. This is about that same kind of criticism, so on behalf of all the Dimebag fans, thanks for writing a song that says "Fuck you, we're human too".

Phil: Right. It's about this website called The Inconoclast. William Grimm was the writer of this article called "Aesthetics Of Hate: Goodbye Dimebag Darrell and Good Riddance". It was basically lambasting the whole metal community for mourning one of our heroes. He said that he was untalented and stuff like that so it was our middle finger back at them.

Anarchy: You also get into other social commentary as well. You aren't big fans of the war or the president right?

Phil: No, actually I'm not. He's a fucking moron (laughs). We're all different on our politics and our religion, but one thing we all agree on is that we're against occupying Iraq. We're not a political band, we're not going to get on any soapbox but what we're doing over there is wrong.

Anarchy: Hell, I voted for the guy once and I feel stupid about it.

Phil: I did too, just because I didn't want to see Gore.

Anarchy: Yeah, because Gore was all about censorship and is probably insane. Meanwhile, Bush seemed like he might be alright and he was obviously a drunk. But I feel fucked though.

Phil: Yeah, we all feel fucked.

Anarchy: How's the current tour with Lamb Of God going? One thing about them is that they bring the best package possible every time they tour.

Phil: They do! They're like the quintessential heavy band right now. They're top 10, grammy nominated, and for the style of music they're playing? Oh my god, I love that band! Solid package from top to bottom. Gojira is awesome, killer band! The Trivium kids are bringing in the kids every night and are solid too. We're just plugging along and happy to be here. It's sold out almost every night and we're getting to the chance to play for all the Lamb Of God kids who have never seen us before. Every night Rob asks who's seeing us for the first time and it's just about everybody. And we 've got them too! By the end of our show we're selling albums for sure!

Anarchy: This isn't really a question, but after this is over...Black Sabbath???

Phil: Crazy huh?

Anarchy: You'll be touring with Heaven And Hell, which is the Dio era Sabbath. That's awesome!

Phil: Oh yeah, we're all super stoked.

Anarchy: How did that come about?

Phil: Well, the deal was that we were going to go out with Megadeth on a tour starting at the same time as this tour. As it was coming down to to it megadeth ended up getting the Heaven And Hell tour. We were submitted for it but didn't know if we were going to get it or not. I was like "Sabbath isn't going to take us out". We ended up getting it man! We are such fans of that era of Sabbath. We love Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules and it's my first arena tour, so we're stoked.

Anarchy: I'm the same way. I don't get the affection for Ozzy over Dio era Sabbath. Dio is truly the uncrowned king of Metal. After that though, will you be doing a headlining tour so your fans can see a full set from you?

Phil: That's going to take us to the end of May. In June and half of July we'll be in Europe doing festivals. We're trying to hop onto a summer tour here for July and August.

Anarchy: Like an Ozzfest? I know Lamb Of God is doing that.

Phil: Maybe Ozzfest, maybe Family Values, maybe whatever might pop up. We're doing a full European run in October and November, so maybe a headlining tour here by January of '08.

Anarchy: I always wondered this about Mteallica during their early years. You have just released an album in The Blackening...this is Vulgar Display Of Power. This is Master Of Puppets. This is Reign In Blood. Do you feel right now that in 20 years people might be holding this up in that league?

Phil: I'm not feeling that. I'm feeling that it'll be relevant in that time. I definitely think that it'll stand the test of time. But I'm so anti..."the new Shadows Fall is the new Ride The Lighting, the new As I Lay Dying is the new Master Of Puppets". There will never be another Ride The Lightning or Master Of Puppets. There will never be another Metallica to come through and change metal to forge a path so that all of us can do this. They did it. There will never be another Master Of Puppets. Come on! Is it a classic record? Yeah. That's the only comparison that I want.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Blackening is indeed a classic album. Fans of oldschool thrash will love it and fans of more current Metalcore stuff will be blown away by it's raw power. Yes, the band has stumbled a few times on previous releases. No, you aren't expecting the album to be as good as it is. If you don't believe the hype, then give it a listen and see for yourself. Go to Machine Head's Myspace page and MachineHead1.com to hear some songs and learn more about the band. I'd like to thank Phil for his time and a big thanks to our friends at Adrenaline PR for making this possible. Machine Head fucking jams!

Out Of The Cellar: Jordan interviews
Pretty Boy Floyd vocalist Steve Summers
pbf.jpg

Hello people, I know we've been a bit over due this month but we're finally here with a new interview. I apologise for the delay but I'm sure you'll love what we've got for you. I spoke to Pretty Boy Floyd and Shameless frontman Steve Summers about life as the original Rock N' Roll Outlaw. For those of you who aren't up to date with Steve's situation here's a little info you might wanna know before reading on. Pretty Boy Floyd were formed in 1987 and their famous debut LP Leather Boyz With Electric Toyz was released two years later. If you haven't heard it I seriously suggest you get your hands on a copy especially if you're a fan of Motley Crue and Poison. Sadly P.B.F. were one of those bands who were a little late on the scene to cause any lasting impact and none of their other releases would ever match the success of Leather Boyz. Since then Pretty Boy Floyd have had a significant amout of line-up changes leaving Steve as the only original member. In 2006 there were rumours of an original Pretty Boy Floyd reunion although soon after a public feud between Steve and guitarist Kristy Majors began. It was played out over the internet and you guessed it, we asked Steve all about it! More recently Steve has been singing with Alexx Michael's band Shameless which also features another ex P.B.F. member, Keri Kelli as well as Tuff's Stevie Rachelle. Shameless are currently trying to bring Glam and Sleaze back to the masses and will soon be embarking on a European tour so if you're around make sure you check 'em out! Enjoy.

Oh and I just wanna mention this month site owner Dave helped me out with the questions and took the phone call with Steve as as you may know I'm in Britain and it would make it a little difficult!

Jordan: You guys were one of the kings of the Sunset Strip back when it was THE scene in the music industry. We imagine what it must have been like, but tell us what it was like to actually be in the middle of that.

Steve Summers: I'm from Southern California and I've been in The Valley so I was always into Motley, Kiss and Ratt and all of that. In the early '80s it was cool I was able to see all of those bands and The Strip developing into this insane thing. From watching Ratt and Motley at the Country Club and the Stardust and Poison at the Troubadour. That part alone was incredible while I was putting together Pretty Boy Floyd, and to actually get to experience it and become the next one to get signed. In all reality, we were the last of the hair bands band on the Sunset Strip to get signed that was a big draw. Not just to get signed, but we were a huge draw like Poison was a huge draw. Not that it’s good or bad, but ours came faster. It only took us our 8 shows and 9 months. Don’t get me wrong, we had 4 years in the planning, but when finally played, it was 8 shows before we got signed. It happened rather quick, but it was insane to be on the Sunset Strip and see all those bands. Shit, I used to carry Bret Michaels stuff into a couple of shows before there even was a Pretty Boy Floyd. It was insane. The girls, to the Roxy, the Rainbow, to Bill Gazzarri, it’s something that you read about but unless you were there then you can’t even imagine. You just go out there with your band and your fliers and you get a buzz and it was just the greatest thing.

Jordan: And do you see any return to that now?

Steve: It will never be like it was before. It was insane before. There were literally 2 blocks that you could walk from The Whiskey to Gazzarri’s and it was just mayhem. Now, there's a lot of bands that are trying to do that kind of stuff and it’s a little better than it used to be, let’s say. Honestly, I don’t follow it too much, but there’s definitely not a scene. People aren’t going “man, we’ve gotta get down to the Sunset Strip on Friday or Saturday to check out a band”. None of that’s occurring. There are certain nights that are big out there. We did a show a couple of nights ago. Monday nights at the Key Club that tribute band Metal Skool is the biggest night. That’s when a thousand maniacs come out and it actually feels like it did before, but not literally because once you go outside it’s kind of dead. Before, you would do a show and stumble down the street to the Rainbow and go over here and you’d go to The Whiskey. There was so many bands at the time that there’d be a million live in rehearsal studios around there. We’d have parties after our shows at the legendary Hollywood Western building. Axl Rose would show up. Like I said, the show we just did was insane, the people were great, the hair, the girls, the whole thing. But once you got outside it’s not like before. Before you had to be escorted out to your car and go out the back way.

Jordan: Your first album, Leather Boys With Electric Toys is in my mind the second best glam/sleaze album of all time. First would be Motley Crue’s Too Fast For Love because nothing can ever touch that.

Steve: Yeah, I have the same feeling.

Jordan: So, since everyone who really loves this genre seems to regard Leather Boys as a classic, why do you think it failed to connect and become the huge hit it should have been? A lot of people bought it the day it came out and were convinced that you were gonna be as big as Poison. What happened?

Steve: It’s simple to us since we experienced it. Number 1, MCA was not experienced in breaking rock bands. They had the heart in it, but they just didn’t have the experience. Like you said, we gave them 10 great songs, we gave them a killer image, we gave them a killer video. From there, they didn’t know what to do because they’d never done it before. MCA was great at R&B and stuff like that. We were on the same label as Elton John. They’re biggest rock bands were Tom Petty and Night Ranger. Not to say that if we were on Elektra or Geffen who already had Motley and Aerosmith it would have been any better because we could have gotten lost in that shuffle. MCA literally did want us to be their big heavy metal band, their Motley Crue of the 90’s. They just didn’t know how to push the buttons. It’s as simple as that. There’s some things that we can do, and there’s some things that we can’t do in the business. They were just very inexperienced. People make jokes, you know MCA: the Musicians Cemetery of America. Their heart was in it. Since they’re a billion dollar label they gave us every bit of money in the world to do certain things. “Set The Night On Fire” was a great video. We used a great director, one of the best, Jeff Stein. You just have to get the damn thing on MTV. You have to have pull and you gotta have knowledge. I’m not saying everything was based on who you know and payola, but they didn’t push any of the right buttons.

Jordan: Are you finding that over the years and even now that 80’s music is becoming cool again, are kids picking it up and realizing how badass it is?

Steve: Oh yeah. Not only Leather Boys, but some of the more recent stuff that we’ve put out. Lets put it this way, most of our emails are from 14 year old girls from Finland that love Motley Crue and found out about Pretty Boy Floyd. That’s the great thing about the internet and YouTube and all these things that people can see what was out there and they can choose what was good and what sucked. I’m sure you can go through your list of hair bands that spent a little too much time trying to do that cool image. We had all that, but we had songs. On all those releases that were put out as bootlegs and all that, people could see that there were a shitload of songs. I’m not saying every one was a classic. When you do demos you might like 5 out of 10 of them. Teenage rock glam anthems are supposed to be fucking pounding drums, big vocals, glam rock singer, catchy riffs and we had all that, on top of an image. Sure we were influenced by all the glam bands that came before, but we didn’t rip them off. Everyone uses their influences but it’s not like we had a blonde singer and all that. We did a little mixing of all of our heroes and put in our brand of sleaze glam rock.

Jordan: Through all the trends that have come and gone since glam fell out of favour, what is it about glam that’s kept you in Pretty Boy Floyd and did you ever feel pressured into growing a goatee and being Nu-Metal Floyd?

Steve: That might have been a problem for a couple of our ex members. I won’t say names, because I’m not like them, but they maybe wanted a change into something easier and more accepted and that wasn’t us. That wasn’t what I set out to do. A lot of artists sit back and go “well, our first record was alright, and our second one was kind of this. If only we had one more chance but we got dropped’. I know our stuff. I know what we did was “shoulda-woulda” and all that kind of stuff, but that’s the nature of the business. We would just need to continue. Sure, there were tough times. When Grunge was happening it didn’t matter what kind of shit you had, but over the past many years that kind of stuff is still viable. Poison still tours, but they don’t have really hit records anymore. Bon Jovi has had a couple of hit records. I just never wanted to do that. If I wanted to do that I would join another band, and that’s not really me to be honest with you. Besides liking Motley Crue, Hanoi Rocks and New York Dolls, that style, I was always into weird shit anyway. Whether it was Dead Or Alive or Duran Duran or Sigue Sigue Sputnick, with the image and stuff. So, to do something normal and going up there like for work or something was not my thing. It was a couple of the other guys thing, and that’s one of the ten reasons why it caused problems for some of the ex-members. I wouldn’t have gone that route. To me right now, some of the stuff we do, we’re one of the only bands that are still sleazy and wear a lot of make-up. We’ve evolved into all these different stages because I’ve had different members, but as we talk right today, a couple of shows ago. That’s something we didn’t have to make up. It’s just a better time now for us. A lot of fans are out there and a lot of good things are happening for us. So, we want to give people what we’re best at, and were best at being fucking glam with kickass songs.

Jordan: You’re also going to Europe for a tour with Shameless right?

Steve: Yeah, we leave Sunday.

Jordan: You’re doing a Pretty Boy Floyd set and then some songs with Shameless. Are the foreign crowds more open to the glam style?

Steve: Yeah, it’s great out there. We’re going to five different countries. We’ve been doing that at least once a year for the past 5 years. Last year it was Pretty Boy Floyd, Bang Tango and Enuff Z Nuff. The year before that it might have been just us. The year before that it might have been us and Faster Pussycat. It’s great out there. You know how you used to hear stories a long time ago that in Japan if you had long hair you’d just go over there and it’s great. It’s kind of switched over to Europe. We went to Brazil last year, me and Stevie Rachelle from Tuff went over there and did our thing and it was insane. Kids were like 14 years old and were just getting into bands like us. It’s really great over there. I wish we could do it 2 or 3 times a year, but we can’t.

Jordan: This might be a sensitive area…

Steve: Dude, there are no sensitive areas…

Jordan: I don’t really understand the concept here, but a former guitarist claims that he is in a band called Pretty Boy Floyd and is releasing material under the bands name? What is the deal with that? I want to make sure that people are checking out the real Pretty Boy Floyd and aren’t confused by an imposter.

Steve: It’s not sensitive, it’s just someone who’s disillusioned about what’s going on right now. Without even talking about him for a second, I hate those people who jump from one thing to another to another to follow trends, while I stick with what’s in my heart. There hasn’t been a day since I put Pretty Boy Floyd together that I haven’t thought of and lived Pretty Boy Floyd. In simple terms, I have no problem saying it. He’s opened his fucking dumb mouth so many times. Kristy Majors, who is not in the band anymore. He hasn’t been in the band since 1990. He’s done some fraudulent things. He’s taken songs that weren’t his. Ariel Style was the main songwriter of Pretty Boy Floyd. He was our original guitar player who wrote 8 of the first Pretty Boy Floyd songs. We did a lot of co-writing, but it’s like Motley Crue where Nikki Sixx did most of the writing. Ariel Styles basically did a lot of those songs. When Kristy quit or got fired, however he wants to put it, I don’t care. I love when a guy says he quit. That means he’s a quitter. I don’t care if you say “quit” or “fired’. It doesn’t matter to me. We were still on MCA and doing demos. That was 200 songs of demos that Ariel and I put our time in. It doesn’t mean that I wrote them, but I was the singer. I’m the singer of Pretty Boy Floyd. I’m the sound of Pretty Boy Floyd. Let's let everybody know when they’re reading this that every artist that they love has had many songs written for them. From Aerosmith to Motley Crue to Madonna to Britney Spears. So yeah, Ariel Styles did a lot of the writing for Pretty Boy Floyd. So, while I continued to do Pretty Boy Floyd and toured the world in buses, toured the world in vans and did 2 shows a day and used different members, Kristy thought it was a great idea to steal all the demos we did. Demos are meant to be demos, let me make that clear. Demos are not to be released as records. A lot of them sounded like shit because they were just demos for us. But he thought it would be a great idea to compile them all up and then with that piece of shit Tom Mathers guy (president of Perris Records), who’s a snake… he’s some musician who never got a record deal or something… they just thought that they would just sneakily put out the records and call them Pretty Boy Floyd records and not pay anybody or give Ariel any writing credit or anything. That’s just some of it. It goes beyond that. It goes to compilation records, b-side records. Some of the songs are cool, but aren’t recorded right. And you know, when you write 200 songs you don’t like all of them. In simple terms, he hasn’t been in the band since 1990 and he’s done a lot of fraudulent things. Let’s just put it this way. I just recorded a Shameless record with Kerri Kelly, who produced it and did some of the writing and he did the same thing with Kerri Kelly songs. It’s very simple. He takes songs that are other peoples, makes some money off them, there will be some law suits, and then he’ll pay. But he’ll come up with all these reasons why, but here’s the simple terms. Vault 1, Vault 2 and Vault 3, those are 98% Ariel Styles songs with me singing on it. Kristy isn’t even playing on it, but he sold it to Perris Records and put it out there as Pretty Boy Floyd records. I don’t know what kind of answer you want for that one. He’s given them all: aliens coming down , I didn’t do it, at one time he was trying to convince Ariel and Vinnie and Kerri that it was me. Basically he’s a bad person. He’ll come up with all these stupid things about me but the bottom line is that he’s one of those people that likes to do things the easy way. Steal songs, put them out. Sit behind a desk, book some bands. Try to make some money off other people. It’s as simple as that.

Jordan: My only memory of him was knowing that he didn’t write the songs and once I saw him on a talk show and he was being a complete ass.

Steve: I’ve said this in interviews in the past and recently…I never really liked the guy. I put the band together, I own the name, I own the partnership, all of that. He fit in the band with his image. In all reality, come on, he looks like a Nikki Sixx kind of guy, big shit. Is he a great guitar player? I’ve played with a lot of great guitar players. What was his attitude like? It goes on and on. He can fool people on Myspace or on the web, anybody can be fooled. Fraud is what the world is all about. Once you know the person, it’s all good. His accusations make me laugh. All he wants to talk about is someone’s hair or apparently he has the code to my bank account so he can see how much money I have (laughs). But the things about him are real things. He’s a pain in the ass, he’s an alright musician, he stole songs, he hasn’t toured in over 15 years, he follows trends, he’s a miserable guy. That’s pretty much it right there. He’s a joke.

Jordan: What’s not a joke is that you’re back with Ariel and working on new material. I know you’ve got some new songs on Myspace. Is there going to be a new album with the classic Pretty Boy Floyd line-up?

Steve: The songs on the site now are songs that I either wrote or co-wrote with other musicians. This is one of the first times that I’m writing, which I didn’t do a lot before. We will probably put out either an EP or a record and then next year put out a record with Ariel and Vinnie back. The songs now are stuff that I wanted to give people a vibe of what I’ve what I’ve been writing. I love the songs “Live Hard, Live Fast”. We have a plan. There’s going to be a tour. We’re going to continue to write songs. I’m going to continue to write with people. We’ll probably put something out, whether it be an EP or a full length, this year. Then the plan is to put something out with Ariel and Vinnie sometime next year for our 20th anniversary. Right now it’s mostly based around writing great songs. Whether it’s with Ariel, or just myself, or writing with some people. That’s always been our thing and that’s what we’re concentrating on.

Jordan: Ariel seems to always come and go in the band over the years. You make such a great team. Is there a reason why he’s come and gone a few times instead of being a more permanent fixture in the band?

Steve: I would just have to say that everyone is different with what’s going on in life. Times just weren’t right for him. Does that make sense?

Jordan: Yeah.

Steve: Some people at a certain don’t want to tour for a year straight and play a side stage at a big pavillion and drive 5 hours and headline a show. Also, it was myself going through different members and trying them and then us finally talking and going “if we’re going to do this, let’s do it right. “Lets give people a really incredible great record”. The short story is that I’ve been doing Pretty Boy Floyd every day of my life. Those guys, I’m not saying that it’s good or bad, but they have their own lives. We’ve been talking and going over this for the past 2 years. I know it’s coming up in blogs like it just happened yesterday, but it’s been talked , songs have been exchanged and it’s been planned for the past two years. To answer the question of why it wasn’t a continuous thing, that’s as simple as it just wasn’t the right time. Other things were going on. I was with other guys and putting out stuff. At one time we were more interested in touring and getting out on the road. I was with some pretty wild guys... Now it’s more about making an incredible record with a couple of the original guys. Now’s the right time.

Jordan: Are you going to focus on signing with one of the labels that’s been signing up 80’s bands or are you happy with the grass roots marketing that you’ve been doing over the years?

Steve: You know honestly we just take it day by day, Our first goal is to have 10 or 14 great songs and as we’re doing those we see other opportunities come up all the times. A booking agency or manager that hears our new songs. In this day and age, you try to do most of everything yourself. That can be pretty profitable and pretty rewarding. We’ll see what happens. We take it day by day. You never know what could happen. Incredible things could happen for us. We’re one of the few bands that are still doing it and still sticking to doing what we love to do, and we do it fuckin' good. Anything could happen. We’re trying to make all the right moves, let's just say. We’re trying to cover all the areas that weren’t covered in previous years.

Lots of news and tour dates from Metal Blade Records!!
Lizzy Borden, Misanthropy Pure, Cellador, Brainstorm, Armored Saint, and lots more

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
METAL BLADE RECORDS' 25th ANNIVERSARY & CELEBRATION!
In 1982, METAL BLADE RECORDS began operating in a young Heavy Metal fan's mom's
garage in suburban Los Angeles.

The result of that metal fan's enthusiasm was the first Metal Blade Records release,
Metal Massacre, a local band compilation that included METALLICA's first recorded
release, BLACK N BLUE, MALICE, CIRITH UNGOL, DEMON FLIGHT, BITCH, AVATAR, and
PANDEMONIUM.

Twenty-Five years later, in 2007, METAL BLADE RECORDS has grown into an
international brand - occupying offices in the US, UK, Germany, Canada and Japan -
all the while maintaining its independent label identity and the original vision of
founder and CEO Brian Slagel.

It was Slagel's enthusiasm for heavy metal as a fan that encouraged its humble
beginnings and it is with that very same passion that Slagel has lead Metal Blade
Records to the forefront of the genre.

Over the last five years, METAL BLADE RECORDS' strength in mining and developing new
talent, lead to adding, at the time, stellar newcomers UNEARTH, AS I LAY DYING, THE
BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and THE RED CHORD to the roster. As the young guns that would
help propel METAL BLADE RECORDS forward, the bands combined to sell a staggering 1.5
million units in the U.S.

The labels' recent successes do not tell the whole story however. METAL BLADE
RECORDS boasts one of the most comprehensive Heavy Metal catalogs in the world,
including seminal releases by SLAYER, CANNIBAL CORPSE, GWAR, KING DIAMOND, SIX FEET
UNDER, FATES WARNING, ARMORED SAINT, MERCYFUL FATE and many more.

With a current roster that includes, in addition to the artists mentioned above,
AMON AMARTH, HATE ETERNAL, GOATWHORE, 3, EVERGREEN TERRACE, CATTLE DECAPITATION,
SHAI HULUD and probably the most anticipated debut release from a metal band in
years, JOB FOR A COWBOY, METAL BLADE RECORDS, at twenty five years old, is reaching
its prime.

2007 will not only celebrate the 25 years of Metal Blade, it will also be the year
that showcases new releases by artists that represent Metal Blade's future - the
third, and highly anticipated album by AS I LAY DYING, the sophomore release by THE
RED CHORD, and a debut album for JOB FOR A COWBOY. In addition 2007 will also see
new releases KING DIAMOND, SIX FEET UNDER and THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER.

Throughout the years, Brian Slagel has become a prominent figure in the metal
community, and continues to run METAL BLADE RECORDS independently without being an
imprint of any major label.

"I am really proud that Metal Blade has reached our 25th anniversary. It has been a
great ride and we have worked with so many amazing people over the years. I have to
thank all of our staff, artists, fans, writers, retail, radio, managers, agents and
everyone else who helped us achieved this landmark. I look forward to the future as
Heavy Metal and Metal Blade remain strong."

To celebrate the significant milestone in Metal Blade's 25th year, there will be a
Metal Blade Records 25th Anniversary Show at the New England Metal & Hardcore
Festival on Saturday 28th April 2007 at THE PALLADIUM in Worcester, MA. As a title
sponsor of this event, Metal Blade Records artists will solely command both stages.
The show will be filmed and recorded for a forthcoming release. MTV's HEADBANGERS
BALL will also be on hand to film and interview artists and staffers for a special
Metal Blade Records episode.

"MTV2 and Headbangers Ball our proud to celebrate Metal Blade's 25th Anniversary at
the 2007 New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Tune into Headbangers Ball on 5/12
to see exclusive coverage from the show."

LIZZY BORDEN ALBUM COVER PHOTO SHOOT!

Lizzy Borden has shot the cover of the as yet un-named new recording due out the end
of summer.

Lizzy is working with special effects wizard and make-up artist Ralis Kahn
(www.ralisfx.com ). Although no details have
been revealed, Ralis has designed the set and the look of the band based on the
characters in the storyline of the new recording.

Famed 'Metal' photographer Alex Solca took well over a 1,000 shots in a two-day
marathon, involving extras as well as the band (Lizzy, Joey Scott, Marten Andersson
and Ira Black). At the end of the two-day shoot the set was literally set a blaze!
with flames shooting 30 feet into the air! And all captured on film.

"Because a lot of music is going straight to itunes, we thought we would pay special
attention to both the cover and the back cover and fill the inside of the CD booklet
with tons of fun shots from this specialized photo shoot. As we all know, very soon
there will no longer be an actual CD to have a cool booklet for. Everything will go
straight from the studio to your ipod, so we thought we would really do this one up
right!" commented Lizzy.

Fifteen hours worth of video footage was also filmed during the two day shoot.

Stay tuned to for the 'Making of' as well as the cover to be posted soon.

MISANTHROPY PURE (Matthew Fox, Shai Hulud)
"Please accept our most humble apologies for the inexcusable lack of updates. We
have an excuse. Book your tickets to hell because it's all nice and frozen down
there, and lo! a pig high in the sky. We have indeed been writing our next album
which -- if you'll just stop snickering for a moment -- we will start recording...
very soon. Yes, you read right -- say it with us, "veh-ree soo-en." In fact, the
album will be completed this year and titled Misanthropy Pure because we still hate
everyone. Yes (sigh), you too. No release date has been set yet. We want to confirm
things three times over before we release any inaccurate information to you, the
good, and quite possibly overfed public.

We will tell you this, Misanthropy Pure will feature ten new songs (including "To
Bear The Brunt Of Many Blades" -- the 2006 demo version can be heard by clicking NOT
HERE

, but HERE ) that were scientifically
structured to knock socks -- regardless of the wearer's gender, race, or length of
toenails -- clean off. Really, we hired a crack team of metalcore specialists to
study today's hippest, hottest, most unit moving bands to find out what you, the
good, and quite possibly medicated to at least some degree public, looks for in
today's music (this is, of course, why Britney Spears sans hair has been in various
pits across the globe demonstrating her style as of late). Upon receiving the
results, we were so appalled we used them as a blueprint to construct an album that
is nothing short of the perfect antithesis (that means opposite -- er, so we think)
of what most of you want to hear. That's right, most of you guys and gals sure have
bad taste. No worries, so do we. Just ask our moms...

Misanthropy Pure will be recorded at Millbrook Studios, Silver Bullet Studios, and
Planet Z with Paul Orofino (A Life Once Lost, Immolation, Zack Wylde), Greg Thomas
(Kingdom Of Sorrow, Icepick,The Risk Taken), and Zeuss (Hatebreed, Throwdown, The
Red Chord) respectively.

There will be more new album information posted periodically. This was just to let
you know that things are very much underway. Please stay tuned, and like Robocop
sternly warned us in 1986, "Stay out of trouble."

ONLINE GUITAR LESSONS WITH BILL HUDSON FROM CELLADOR!
Yes, technology has gotten to me. After procrastinating for so long, I'm finally
starting to teach guitar online! For more than 10 years I've taught students both in
Brazil and the USA, and had to deal with problems such as:

- Being on tour (which makes it harder for students to progress due to extended
periods of time with no lessons)
- Not being able to teach interested people who live outside of my immediate area
(let's face it: living in midwest USA or BRAZIL doesn't help the cause)
- Weather conditions (who wants to leave their house on a below zero temperature?),
etc.

Honestly, the idea of online lessons always seemed weird to me, until I saw a good
friend teaching. I realized that with an internet connection, a computer and a
webcam almost anything is possible and the problems mentioned above can be solved.
In fact, in my opinion, it's even better because when you don't leave your house,
all you need to do is keep working on the examples while they're fresh in your mind.
No driving back home, no distractions, no pieces of paper that can get lost.

E-mail me at bill@cellador.com with the subject
"ONLINE LESSONS". Please include your name, city (country if outside USA) and the
days and times that work best for you (Central Time, please). You'll then receive a
reply with a zip file containing all the necessary softwares for the lessons and all
the information you'll need.

Cost per lesson will be US$ 30 for a full hour (half hour lessons never worked and

CELLADOR PARTS WAYS WITH DRUMMER DAVE DAHIR...SEEKS REPLACEMENT

It's been less than four months since we parted ways with our bass player, and we're
happy to inform you that we have found a replacement. His name will be announced
soon, but I can assure that some of you already know who he is. He's definitely the
best choice we could have made, and you'll all be very impressed with him. But
unfortunately, I have to - once again - announce that CELLADOR is no longer working
with drummer and very good friend David Dahir. He has always been more into death
metal and more brutal styles of music, and even more recently has began to further
venture into the realm of extreme music. In the last few months Dave has become more
interested in these styles and because of this everyone involved thought it would be
good if we tried different things. Maybe we'll work together again in the future.
Who knows? Dave is very talented and young, and we'll be happy to help him in anyway
we possibly can. We're sure you'll hear about his other musical projects very soon.

At this time CELLADOR is holding auditions in order to find a replacement drummer.
We are seeking someone who at the very least is willing to fill in so we can fulfill
our upcoming show obligations. The band is seeking an energetic and motivated
individual, preferably 25 years of age or younger, with a devout and passionate
commitment to music and drumming. We are looking for someone with amazing footwork
and stamina in particular. A background in extreme music in addition to power metal
would be a huge plus, as we want to incorporate a lot of these elements into our
music. If you are interested or know of anyone who might be, please e-mail us at
contact@cellador.com or message us on our MySpace page.
