CD Review: Mondo Generator -- Dead Planet

Warning: The new album by Mondo Generator will kick your ass, steal your girlfriend and drink all of your beer.

Ex- Queens Of The Stone Age bassist/sometimes vocalist Nick Oliveri, who once considered Mondo Generator a side project, has refocused himself and made MG his main gig. As it turns out, this is a very, very good thing for rock n roll. The bands new album 'Dead Planet' is some of his best work since the classic Kyuss albums. Raw, relentless and out of control, this is thrashy punk rock n roll at it's fiinest! Did I say "out of control"? That is a bit overstated. Oliveri is a songwriting pro, and manages to instill each track with something most bands of this genre tend to leave out...melody. So, rest assured that along with the insanity that rivals the best in metal and punk, you'll also get solid harmonies, killer riffs and grooves that set this album higher than the directionless noise that has been the norm in recent years.

I would like to tell you about the highs and lows of this album, but there are no lows. Every one of the 17 tracks on 'Dead Planet' are outstanding. If I had to pick a favorite it would be "She Only Owns You", but even that would be closely followed by "All Systems Go", "Like A Bomb", "Sam Hall", "Basket Case"...oh fuck it, the entire disc owns you!

Some bands have balls...Mondo Generator are porn star sized manhood personified. It's manly music, and just might be enough to get you to stop wearing girl's pants. At the very least it will save your godforsaken soul from the garbage filling up rock radio. And besides...your girlfriend will thank you for it.
