CD Review: Fleshcrawl -- Structures Of Death
By Janeen "darklighter"

First, love the name Fleshcrawl. It's right up there with the Godfathers of Death Metal, Cannibal Corpse. But getting back to the nitty gritty, Structures of Death is the latest devilish offering from the German ax Godz. It's raw, brutal and everything you know and love and expect from a band of their genre. Beginning with the subtle strains of the luverly titled Skulls of the Rotten, an intro-instrumental designed in mind to build up the creepy crawly pace and setting the tone and tearing into the all out metal exorcism of the song which bears the name of the CD which is you guessed it, Structures of Death. I myself had a devil of a time figuring out the lyrics which is as you'd expect, bone chilling and terror inducing and not for the feint hearted, something about bringing you down and discovering the structures of death. I myself don't need to delve into it myself and I'll take a pass but I guess for some it could be a seduction song and I dug it for what is was, a darn good headbanger and hair whipper. I admired the soft Spanish guitar introducing Into the Fire of Hell and then before I knew it it was a fiery and heavy descent onto the bowels of hellfire the likes that Arthur Brown only dreamt of and that lovely Spanish guitar made an apt comeback at the end of the song. Spirit Dressed in Black is maybe not what say Calvin Klein had in mind but if he had ballz of steel he'd probably say screw it and then design quite the musical mayhem such as this one. And besides you can't go wrong with black anyway. If you have a serious jonz fo death metal the heart attack that is Fleshcrawl is a contender for your pleasure.
